Weekend Oral Surgery Assistant information

What are the main responsibilities of a weekend oral surgery assistant?

A Weekend Oral Surgery Assistant supports oral surgeons during surgical procedures, primarily on weekends. Their duties include preparing surgical instruments, assisting with patient care before and after procedures, maintaining a sterile environment, and recording patient information. They also help manage anesthesia and ensure patients are comfortable and informed throughout their visit. This role requires excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced surgical setting.

What are the most common challenges faced by a weekend oral surgery assistant, and how can they be managed?

Weekend Oral Surgery Assistants often encounter challenges such as managing a high volume of emergency or urgent procedures, adapting to a fast-paced environment, and providing compassionate care to anxious patients. Since weekend shifts may have smaller teams, assistants are expected to be proactive and flexible, taking on a variety of responsibilities from patient prep to sterilizing instruments. Building strong communication skills and staying organized can help manage these challenges effectively, ensuring smooth workflow and quality patient care.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a weekend oral surgery assistant, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Weekend Oral Surgery Assistant, you need knowledge of dental procedures, infection control, and basic patient care, typically supported by dental assisting certification or relevant experience. Familiarity with dental radiography equipment, sterilization systems, and electronic dental records is important. Strong communication, attention to detail, and the ability to remain calm under pressure are crucial soft skills in this role. These competencies are essential for ensuring efficient surgical workflows, patient safety, and a positive experience for both patients and the dental team during busy weekend shifts.

Oral Surgery in Reno NV, Dental Implants and Wisdom Teeth Removal

Now Hiring: Oral Surgery Assistant

Join a Team That Changes Lives, One Smile at a Time

We are a private Oral Surgery Practice looking for a skilled, compassionate Oral Surgery Assistant to join our growing team across our Reno and Sparks locations. If you thrive in a fast-paced clinical environment, love working with your hands, and want to be part of a practice that genuinely cares — about patients and about you — we want to meet you. We pride ourselves on genuine and unparalleled patient care and we are looking for an oral surgery assistant who brings extraordinary patient care to collaborate the same exceptional care with our team, referring offices, patients and their families.

Why join our team?

  • Work chairside with board-certified oral & maxillofacial surgeons on procedures ranging from wisdom teeth extractions and dental implants to full-arch reconstruction and facial trauma care.
  • A team-first culture, small enough that your work matters, you'll have the training, mentorship, and equipment to do your best work.
  • Community roots. We're proud to partner with many local non-profit organizations and provide dental care to the underserved — because giving back is part of who we are.
  • Room to grow, cross-training, continuing education support, and a clear path to advance your skills in oral surgery, sedation assisting, and practice operations.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Competitive pay, bonus potential, and annual merit reviews
  • Paid Time Off
  • 401(k) plan with company match
  • Health Savings Account (HSA) with HDHP health plans
  • Medical (including virtual care), dental, and vision coverage
  • Basic and supplemental life insurance
  • Short & long-term disability
  • Employee Assistance Program
  • BLS/CPR certification support

What You'll Do

  • Assist surgeons chairside during extractions, implant placement, bone grafting, and other oral & maxillofacial procedures
  • Prepare and sterilize instruments, maintaining strict infection control standards
  • Monitor patients before, during, and after sedation/anesthesia
  • Take digital x-rays and intra oral scans
  • Support patients and their families with warmth and clear communication before and after procedures
  • Help keep our Reno and Sparks offices running smoothly as part of a tight-knit clinical team effort

What We're Looking For

  • Dental/oral surgery assistant experience preferred
  • DAANCE certification(or willingness to obtain)
  • CPR/BLS certification
  • A calm, steady presence — surgery can be intense, and patients look to you for reassurance
  • Someone who takes pride in precision, cleanliness, patient care and teamwork
