This position is the primary support position for Microsoft SQL Server databases. This position works with the Systems Engineering Manager to develop and maintain database and technology systems. Key responsibilities include conducting system analysis, support and maintenance, maintaining systems to current standards with changing technologies. Maintains servers, data integrity, and educates the staff in the use of the database systems. The position is a key technical resource for other Senior Staff, providing advice, training, and technical support for various projects. In addition, the position works closely with professional / technical staff and management teams in evaluating current systems and making decisions on future system enhancements. Other duties as assigned.

Essential Functions, Duties, and Responsibilities
  • Identifies, researches, and resolves technical problems.
  • Responds to requests for technical support.
  • Provides support to end users on a variety of issues.
  • Provides support to Support Operations Center and serves as a point of escalation.
  • Documents, tracks, and monitors problems to ensure a timely resolution.
  • Maintains current knowledge of the concepts, practices, and procedures related to branch infrastructure technology and operations.
  • Implements policies and procedures related to software, use, support, security, and backup.
  • Communicates standards for use and operations of branch systems and operations.
  • Communicates with other departments to report and resolve infrastructure issues.
  • Installs and tests software and hardware upgrades.
  • Collects and analyzes data utilization information to provide improvements and efficiencies gains.
  • Performs installation, configuration, migration, and maintenance of assigned technology.
  • Determines migration and upgrade impacts and diagnose/resolve complex technology/application errors.
  • Coordinate patch schedule with other teams such as patch team, infrastructure management, security operations, governance & risk.
  • Communicate project and operational metrics.
  • Automates IT processes utilizing modern scripting languages and other automation tools.
  • Under direction of the engineering teams, monitor relevant IT facilities, services, and systems as needed to maintain 24x7 service operation uptime.
  • Performs afterhours activities as needed for the environment and technologies.
  • Responsible for all production databases in 24x7 supports for large scale, maintenance, upgrade, security and database instance and server level performance, and space usage monitoring.
  • Responsible migration/upgrade to SQL Server to a version supported by Microsoft.
  • Configure with SQL AlwaysOn HA environment and build disaster recovery strategy plan for critical database servers.
  • Build up performance baseline and automation monitoring process.
  • Configure best practices for production databases supports in 24x7 including configure database automation monitor, alert, pre-action, health report, database instance performance tuning, table partition automation sliding window, database backup, as well as space, CPU, and disk IO monitor in clustered and SAN storage environment.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Competencies
  • Ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner; Gathers and analyzes information skillfully; Develops alternative solutions.
  • Extensive experience in administration of databases in a large enterprise organization including database backup, restore, recovery models, clustering, database mirroring, and replication.
  • Possess extensive experience with the following database administration functions: database definition, storage allocation, security administration, database reorganization, performance tuning, backup and recovery.
  • Thorough understanding of best practices in the areas of SQL Server support and production deployment.
  • Possess extensive experience with Windows Servers as it relates to database administration.
  • Strong ability to detect and troubleshoot database server related CPU, memory, I/O, disk space and other resource contention.
  • Possess knowledge of and experience with index management, integrity checks, configuration, software maintenance.
  • Possess knowledge of how runtime statistics work, how indexes are stored, how they can be created and managed effectively.
  • Extensive hands‑on experience in developing diagnostics and disaster recovery plans to safeguard the integrity of the database.
  • Experience in design and implementation of monitoring and scheduling processes SQL Server jobs.
  • Ability to serve as a mentor for existing and new team members.
  • Ability to work well in a fast‑paced environment and meet deadlines.
  • Is a self‑motivated individual, capable of managing his/her time well, and work efficiently and effectively without close supervision.
  • Is a team player with excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Possess strong customer service orientation (internal/external).
  • Strong ability and experience documenting and creating technical procedures regarding database systems.

  • Bachelor’s degree or 7-10 years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Certification: MCDBA (Microsoft Certified Database Administrator) certification preferred
  • Academic: Bachelor’s degree required.
