If there’s one thing earning your advanced degree has taught you, it’s how to evolve your expertise rapidly and stay at the forefront of your field.

The MSL Player-Coach is a field-based scientific and clinical expert who supports the company’s programs through direct site engagement and strategic team leadership. This individual educates healthcare practitioners on RNAi therapeutics, facilitates clinical trial execution, and partners with investigative sites to advance patient care.

In addition to core MSL responsibilities—including scientific exchange, KOL engagement, and clinical trial support—the Player-Coach leads by example, mentoring and guiding other MSLs to ensure operational excellence. The role requires strategic planning, cross-functional collaboration, and proactive leadership, all while maintaining full compliance with company policies, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.

Summary of Key Responsibilities
  • Manage and develop MSLs including field training, evaluation, and motivation.
  • Provide strong leadership to motivate the team and achieve outstanding results that align with goals.
  • Identify, develop, and maintain effective professional relationships with critical external stakeholders, including building a network of Therapeutic Area scientific experts in the US.
  • Develop and ensure alignment in medical education activities for healthcare professionals through MSL-delivered presentations, participation in medical meetings, and other appropriate venues to enhance disease state knowledge.
  • Interpret and translate national strategies into MSL field activities that include development and engagement with regional opinion leaders in individual MSL territories.
  • Guide and mentor MSLs in the execution of disease awareness and clinical trial recruitment strategies.
  • Act as a strategic liaison between clinical investigators, internal stakeholders, and CRO partners to ensure timely communication, site support, and high-quality study execution.
  • Collaborate with Clinical Development, Clinical Operations, and CROs on site identification, evaluation, initiation, and training.
  • Educate and engage site staff to optimize trial execution, ensure protocol compliance, and meet enrollment timelines.
  • Lead outreach to referring sites to raise awareness of the Phase 3 hypertension study, clarify eligibility criteria, and drive patient referrals.
  • Support and monitor site-specific patient recruitment strategies; share insights and findings with study management teams.
  • Participate in Site Initiation Visits (SIVs), investigator meetings, Steering Committees, and cross-functional project activities to provide appropriate education regarding the client’s investigational product and clinical development program.
  • Capture and communicate actionable medical insights from the field to inform clinical and medical strategies.
  • Deliver scientific education on the investigational therapy's mechanism of action and emerging clinical data across diverse settings.
  • Monitor and report regional and site-level trends, recruitment barriers, and protocol feedback to support operational improvements.
  • Gather and share competitive intelligence appropriate to the role to inform strategic planning.
  • Represent company at scientific congresses, providing educational support and summarizing key findings.
  • Ensure all activities comply with company policies and applicable regulatory standards.
  • Complete timely and accurate administrative documentation and reports.
Travel

Travel up to 70%, including overnight and weekend travel as needed.

As a Coach
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to junior MSLs and new team members.
  • Lead strategic planning for field medical activities in hypertension.
  • Support onboarding and training initiatives for field medical staff.
  • Offer insights and feedback to improve team performance and engagement.
  • Act as a liaison between field teams and headquarters to ensure alignment.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and scientific excellence.
Qualifications
  • Advanced degree in life sciences (PharmD, MD, PhD, DNP, DHSc, or equivalent).
  • Minimum 3+ years of experience in the pharmaceutical or biotech industry, with a focus on medical affairs or field medical roles.
  • Minimum 1+ years of experience leading Medical Affairs field personnel.
  • Preferred experience supporting Phase II/III clinical trials.
  • Prior history in hypertension or cardiovascular-related therapeutic areas.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain relationships with KOLs and clinical site staff.
  • Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and external stakeholders.
  • Candidates must reside within the assigned geography.
