Weekend Only Rn information

What is a Weekend Only RN?

A Weekend Only RN is a registered nurse who works exclusively on weekends, typically covering shifts on Saturdays and Sundays. These positions are designed to ensure continuous patient care during weekends when staffing needs may be higher or regular staff are off-duty. Weekend Only RNs may work longer shifts or have different compensation structures, such as premium pay, to account for their unique schedules. This role is common in hospitals, long-term care facilities, and other healthcare settings that require 24/7 nursing coverage.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Weekend Only RN, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Weekend Only RN, you need an active RN license, strong clinical assessment skills, and an ability to provide comprehensive patient care, often with significant autonomy. Familiarity with electronic health records (EHRs), medication administration systems, and hospital protocols is necessary. Excellent time management, adaptability, and communication skills are crucial to handle higher patient loads and collaborate with weekend staff. These skills ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality care during weekend shifts when resources and support may be more limited.

What are some common challenges faced by Weekend Only RNs and how can they be managed?

Weekend Only Registered Nurses often encounter challenges such as higher patient volumes, limited access to certain support staff, and the need for efficient communication with weekday teams. Managing these challenges requires strong organizational skills, adaptability, and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively. Building rapport with colleagues and staying updated through thorough handoffs can help ensure seamless patient care and a smoother workflow during weekends.

Job description

Salary Range: $34 - $35/ Hour

WHO WE ARE

We are VITAS Healthcare, the nation's leading end-of-life care provider since 1978.

Our hospice organization kickstarts careers in caring, promotes from within, and provides a nationally recognized best-in-class employee experience. Supported by industry-leading experts and a growing network of programs in 15+ states, VITAS empowers team members to grow toward their goals while transforming patients' lives.

Our priority is to care: For our patients, for each other, and for the future.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

As a home care registered nurse (RN), you will ensure hospice patients are comfortable and forge compassionate, meaningful connections with the people in their lives.

This is important work that comes with equal responsibility. Patients and families trust VITAS nurses to guide them through the end-of-life journey, and maintaining that trust is our highest priority.

You will be a respected member of our team, both as a caregiver and as a hospice educator. You will be entrusted with the autonomy to make care decisions at the bedside, ensuring not a moment is wasted in bringing comfort to your patients.

You will help patients and their loved ones understand and embrace the palliative-rather than curative-nature of hospice and the benefits of comfort-focused end-of-life care.

WHERE YOU'LL WORK

Each day is different. You will spend most of your time caring for hospice patients wherever they call home, whether that means a private residence or an assisted living/skilled nursing facility. Most VITAS nurses make 4-6 visits each day.

Once a week, you'll visit the local program office to meet with an interdisciplinary team, including social workers, physicians, chaplains, and nurses, who collaborate to provide holistic support for the patients and families we serve.

WHAT'S EXPECTED FROM YOU

A VITAS nurse is the end-of-life caregiver everyone deserves. In addition to having your RN license, at least two years of nursing experience, and reliable transportation, you'll approach your work with the traits that make the VITAS Difference: Commitment, Compassion, and a Can-do Attitude.

You will keep patient welfare at the center of everything you do, giving your best each day in service of our core commitment: Extending comfort and dignity to all people at the end of their life's journey.

VITAS Healthcare is the nation's leading provider of end-of-life care, and has the resources and expertise to support your personal and professional growth.  As a member of the VITAS team, you'll find fulfillment working for a people-focused organization dedicated to making a difference in the lives of others. You will be more than just an employee: You will be counted on as an expert in your field, and as a valued team member whose efforts are respected and vital to our hospice mission.

All VITAS employees commit to fulfilling their duties and responsibilities with the highest regard for professionalism, collaboration and teamwork, and an eye focused constantly on growth and improvement. We serve with commitment and compassion, and position ourselves for the future by embracing, innovating, and leading change. If you are that person, make your voice heard-find your purpose at VITAS today.

Benefits Include:

- Competitive compensation
- Health, dental, vision, life and disability insurance
- Pre-tax healthcare and dependent care flexible spending accounts
