Job description

Electric Motor & Contracting Company, Inc., founded in 1960, is one of the largest independently owned repair facilities for electrical rotating machinery, pumps, and switchgear in the United States. We are conveniently located in Hampton Roads, Virginia just miles from Virginia Beach and Norfolk.

We are currently seeking First Class Large Motor Mechanics.

Job Description:

  • Disassembly and reassembly of motors, pumps, and generators up to 12,000 HP (13.2kw Voltage).
  • Troubleshoot oil leaks, vibration problems, etc.
  • Perform test runs on rebuilt motors.
  • Miscellaneous mechanical tasks as needed.

Qualifications:

  • High school degree or equivalent.
  • Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience disassembling, troubleshooting, and reassembling motors, pumps, and generators.
  • Ability to read drawings and interpret specifications.
  • Must be physically able to safely operate equipment, able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, and capable of standing/stooping/kneeling for long periods of time.
  • We are a service industry on call to our customers 24/7/365. To meet our customers' needs, employees must be able to work overtime as needed, including extending hours outside of the assigned shift. This also includes weekends/holidays.
  • Must provide own tools (testing equipment is provided by the company).
  • Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
