Job DescriptionSOUTH BAY SANDBLASTING & TANK CLEANING, INC. located in San Diego, CA shipyard related subcontractor looking to hire a General Laborer Job SummaryWe're seeking a General Laborer with commitment to safety and performance. The ideal candidate will provide a variety of duties including but not limited to cleaning the yard, materials, setting up for specified work on vessel, fire watch and assisting other shipyard workers and trades as required. Candidate can work in confined spaces and has no problem working long hours and weekends. Must be in San Diego California, we are not looking to relocate candidates at this time.  Responsibilities:Performs various physical duties as assignedUse proper PPEMoves, secures, installs, builds, loads, or unloads materialsPerforms some specialized tasks which may require on-the job trainingEffectively using heavy and light equipment, depending on the jobsite/assignmentMoves items from place to place, according to direction from the site supervisorMoving tools, equipment, or other material as directed in plans or by supervisorImplement and follow the company's safety, quality, and environmental policies Qualifications:Ability to read labels, safety warnings, and guidelinesAttentive to detail and alert always to ensure safetyAble to receive and follow instructions and communicate with co-workersAbility to safely operate various vehicles and equipmentPrevious experience, especially in particular industry, preferred Education Requirements:High school diploma or GED, B.A., Technical/Vocational trade school, or apprenticeship Working Conditions and Physical Demands:Work is conducted indoors and outdoors frequently exposed to prevailing weather conditions. Work indoor or aboard vessel which may have fumes, chemicals, and heat as well as noise and dust present depending upon the location of work.Safety equipment required. The individual must be able to frequently climb inclined stairways and vertical. Work aboard the vessels can be strenuous and sometimes hazardous. Dynamic, fast-paced outdoor setting with moderate to loud noise levels from production activity in the shipyard. Must be able to stand and walk for long periods of time. Must be flexible to work varying schedules and hours as needed. The physical demands described above are representative of those that may be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
