Job description

Position Summary Position Summary Under the direction of the Recreation Supervisor or Recreation Coordinator, performs various tasks as necessary to provide recreation services to the St. George Community. Essential Functions/Typical Working/Mental Demands/Working Conditions Essential Functions (Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following tasks, knowledge, skills, and other characteristics.

The list of tasks is illustrative only and is not a comprehensive listing of all functions and tasks performed by positions in this class.) Officiates sport games for youth including flag football, volleyball, basketball, soccer, baseball, softball, and t-ball. 2Study, understand, perform, and enforce proper officiating practices, mechanics and sport specific rules. Sets up and takes down all equipment during shifts

Writes injury reports for players that get injured during the course of a game. Writes ejection reports for any coach/player that gets ejected from a game. Assists in field preparation for each sport.

Performs other related duties as required. Typical Physical/Mental Demands/Working Conditions Conditions and temperatures may vary depending on the assignment. Requires the use of vision and/or hearing to identify and evaluate emergencies.

Must be able to respond quickly and appropriately to emergencies. Requires moderately heavy physical activity exerting 25-50 pounds of force occasionally and/or 10-25 pounds of force frequently. Mental demands of intermittent exposure to stress as a result of human behavior.

Note: Individuals in this position must be able to work nights and weekends. A typical assignment will require 4-5 hours. A typical Saturday assignment will require 6-8 hours.

Exceptions apply to 14-15 year olds per the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and Child Labor Provisions for employment of youth this age. Qualifications Qualifications Education: None required. Experience: Prior officiating experience preferred, but not required.

Age Requirement: All applicants must be 14 years of age or older. Employees under the age of 16 will be strictly held to the City of St. George Recreation Department's Standard Operating Guidelines for 14-15 Year Employment and the United States Department of Labor, Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and Child Labor Provisions for employment of youth this age.

Licenses and/or Certifications: CPR, First Aid, AED certification required. Must be obtained within 60 days of hire and maintained throughout employment. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of: Working knowledge of rules and official mechanics in flag football, volleyball, basketball, soccer, and baseball/softball preferred.

Skills: Highly motivated Dependable Customer service oriented Computer literate Ability to: Communicate effectively with coaches and players. Handle tense situations by communicating with coaches and players. Accurately write reports including descriptions of injuries and ejections.
