Title: Audio Technician
Location: Alexandria, Virginia (On-Site)
Travel: Flexibility in working hours, including occasional evenings and weekends, based on project needs.
Red Carrot is seeking an Audio Technician to join a team supporting our federal government client. The Audio Technician is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining audio equipment to ensure high-quality sound recording for music, voiceovers, podcasts, and live broadcasts. This role involves troubleshooting technical issues, managing audio gear inventory, collaborating with producers and clients, and providing technical support for events. Additionally, the technician ensures compliance with safety and copyright regulations while preparing reports on completed tasks, equipment status, and process improvements.
Key Responsibilities:
  1. Recording and Production:
    • Set up and operate audio equipment, including microphones, mixing consoles, signal processors, and recording software.
    • Record music, voiceovers, podcasts, and broadcasts.
    • Ensure high-quality sound during recording sessions by monitoring audio levels, adjusting EQ, and managing signal flow.
    • Collaborate with producers and directors to achieve the desired sound and mood.
  2. Equipment Management:
    • Maintain and troubleshoot audio equipment, ensuring all gear is in working order.
    • Manage inventory of audio equipment and software, recommending upgrades or replacements as needed.
    • Assist in the setup and breakdown of audio equipment for live events and broadcasts.
  3. Collaboration and Communication:
    • Work closely with team members to ensure audio aligns with the overall project vision.
    • Provide creative input during production meetings and contribute to brainstorming sessions.
    • Communicate effectively with clients to understand their audio needs and deliver high-quality results.
  4. Technical Support and Speaker Setup:
    • Provide technical support during recording sessions, live events, and broadcasts.
    • Troubleshoot and resolve any audio-related issues that arise during production.
    • Set up and optimize speaker systems for events, ensuring clear and balanced sound coverage across the venue.
  5. Reporting:
    • Prepare and submit weekly and monthly reports detailing completed tasks, ongoing projects, equipment status, and any issues encountered.
    • Provide insights and recommendations in reports to improve audio production processes and equipment usage.
  6. Compliance and Safety:
    • Adhere to safety protocols for handling audio equipment.
    • Ensure compliance with copyright laws and licensing requirements for audio content.
Qualifications:
  • Experience: 3+ years of experience in a professional recording studio or broadcast environment.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Strong understanding of signal flow, audio routing, and patching.
    • Knowledge of audio processing tools, including EQ, compression, reverb, and other effects.
    • Familiarity with various microphone types, placement techniques, and recording environments.
  • Soft Skills:
    • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality work.
    • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
Work Environment:
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced studio environment with tight deadlines.
  • Flexibility to work irregular hours, including nights and weekends, depending on project requirements.
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to lift and move audio equipment as needed.
  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods during recording sessions.
