Job description

The Museum Guide is responsible for delivering engaging, accurate, and informative guided tours of The Neon Museum, ensuring a high-quality and memorable guest experience. This role also provides guest service to guests not on a tour, while maintaining a welcoming and professional environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Greet all guests in a courteous, friendly, and professional manner, creating a positive first impression.
  • Learn extensive historical information to be used in a guided tour.
  • Conduct guided tours that are informative, engaging, and historically accurate, tailored to diverse audiences.
  • Provide clear and accurate information regarding the Museum.
  • Promote Museum memberships by communicating their value and benefits to visitors.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service by assisting guests, answering questions, and providing directions or recommendations as needed.
  • Enforce and clearly communicate Museum policies in a patient and professional manner.
  • Support special events, tours, and operational activities as assigned.
  • Assist with administrative tasks and special projects to support overall Museum operations.
  • Follow all safety and security protocols, promptly reporting any concerns related to guests, staff, or the Museum collection.
  • Adhere to uniform standards.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

This position is non-exempt and reports to the Guest Services Supervisor.

Requirements

  • Requires experience in customer service or working with the public.
  • Requires ability to speak and interact with diverse audiences in a clear and engaging manner.
  • Requires ability to learn, retain and share the history and story of the collection and exhibits.
  • Requires ability to consistently, tactfully and effectively uphold Museum policies.
  • Requires ability to use email and contemporary computer programs and software.
  • Requires active listening ability and reading comprehension.
  • Requires consistent attendance and punctuality.
  • Requires ability to work outdoors in seasonal desert temperatures and indoors in environmentally controlled conditions.
  • Requires standing for long periods of time.
  • Requires ability to lift 20 pounds.

Working Conditions

  • Ability to work outdoors in seasonal desert weather conditions with frequent exposure to bright, flashing lights and illuminated signage as part of the Museum’s Collection.
  • Ability to work indoors in a climate-controlled environment and in close proximity to other people, sitting / standing for long periods of time.
  • Frequent use of a computer, keyboard, telephone, and headset.
  • Ability to occasionally lift 20 pounds.
  • Frequent use of a computer, keyboard, telephone and other office equipment, knowledge.
  • Occasional standing and walking on uneven surfaces (gravel, pavement, etc.).


Work Schedule

  • Part-Time
  • Must be able to work varied shifts and extended hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Must be able to work minimum of four (4) shifts per week.
  • Shifts must include some or all the following: Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday.
  • 20-25 hours per week standard.


Compensation

  • Hourly pay: $15.45 per hour during the 60-day probation.
  • Upon passing probation hourly pay increased to $16.48
  • Guides can earn up to $20/hr over time with advanced training, skill development, and tenure.
  • Eligible for overtime in accordance with Nevada wage and hour laws
