Job description

Maintenance Shop Supervisor for Public Transit at EMBARK OKC
Salary $67,170.96 Annually


This position is located in the Maintenance Division of EMBARK. This position is responsible for the supervision of mechanics and/or service attendants by providing effective leadership, and training, and mentoring. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Prioritization and delegation of work; maintenance of accurate, up-to-date records; preparation of information used for administrative forms and reports such as budget, goals and objectives, and purchase requests; monitors work activities and evaluation or work progress. Responsible for ensuring those employees in the Maintenance Division follow company policies and procedures. Must have the ability to maintain good relationships with co-workers and other members of management and have the ability to understand concerns of operators and drivers about vehicle repairs. Assists in evaluating the condition of the transit fleet, identifying maintenance trends and potential problems and making recommendations to prevent, resolve or manage those problems. Work is performed independently and includes responsibility for the safe and efficient utilization of materials, manpower and equipment.

JOB REQUIREMENTS
  • Skill in verbal and written communication.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records of work unit activities.
  • Ability to communicate verbally in English, so as to be understood, both in person, by telephone and by radio. 
  • Ability to provide instruction and direction to employees in a clear, concise manner.
  • Ability to respond quickly and calmly when dealing with difficult situations (i.e. equipment failures, time pressures, employee conflicts).
  • Ability to interview job applicants.
  • Ability to read and write English effectively.
  • Knowledge of and ability to follow safe working procedures and practices.
  • Knowledge of and experience in ten-key, data entry and computer operation.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with City of Oklahoma City and EMBARK personnel, contractors and vendors.
  • Obtain and maintain a valid Commercial Driver's License (class B) with a Passenger (P) endorsement.
  • Must be able to comply with strict attendance policies.
  • High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED).
  • Four years experience in vehicle maintenance and repair, including large vehicles such as trucks and buses.
WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Exposure to dust, fumes, gases, solvents, noise and unfavorable weather conditions.
  • may require a varied work schedule to include:      weekends and holidays.
  • Occasionally required to work hours beyond normal quitting time.
  • Subject to sitting, standing, walking, or using a telephone for extended periods of time.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Ability to continuously walk, stand and be around extremes in temperature and humidity.
  • Must be able to use both hands either simultaneously or singly and both feet for foot controls either simultaneously or singly.
  • Must be able to hear safety and emergency horns.
  • Must be able to obtain an Oklahoma Department of Transportation physical examination certification and pass a drug and alcohol screen in accordance with Federal Transit Administration regulations.
  • Vision enough to read written communications.
  • Speech enough to communicate clearly and distinctly. 
  • Hearing enough to communicate in person and by phone.

EVALUATION CRITERIA

Difficulty

This position provides supervisory support for the Manager of Operations.  This job requires knowledge of fundamentally similar work and some knowledge of operational relationships to deal with variables within a framework of normally recurrent operations.  Decisions made are primarily independent in nature.  Standard guides or instructions govern the field of work, but judgment must be used in the selection of guides. 

Interpersonal Relations

This position has frequent contact with COTPA and City personnel, general public, and outside agency personnel to give or obtain information on problems or matters necessitating explanation and interpretation of facts.  Understanding and cooperation are frequently attained by the exercise of tact and diplomacy to achieve desired results.

 Supervision Given and Received

The Shop Supervisor assigns and/or monitors work of bus operators, solves problems arising in the course of the work, and reviews performance for compliance with COTPA policies and procedures and city and state laws and regulations.Ultimate responsibility encompasses accountability for the general effectiveness and quality of staff performance. 

The employee works primarily independently and is under the direction of an Assistant Fleet Manager and Maintenance Superintendent.  Work assignments are both general and specific in nature and are received in written and verbal form.  Work products are subject to review by conferences, staff report, and observations.  Unusual problems or questions concerning work methods are discussed with the supervisor.

This job classification has been designated as a safety sensitive job classification in accordance with the Oklahoma Medical Marijuana and Patient Protection Act, 63 O.S., 427.1 et seq., (OSCN 2019), effective August 29, 2019.   This means employees in this job classification can be subject to disciplinary action up to and including termination if they test positive for marijuana components or metabolites, even if they possess a medical marijuana license.
VETERANS PREFERENCE
A five-point preference will be awarded on the initial scored selection process for honorably discharged veterans of the United States Armed Forces not currently employed full time by EMBARK.  Qualified applicants must submit a copy of their DD Form 214 indicating discharge type/character of service in person, mail, or fax at 405-316-3346.

NOTE: Successful applicant will be required to pass a Department of Transportation physical examination that will include a drug screen. Employee will be subject to mandatory drug and alcohol testing in accordance with Federal Transit Administration Regulations and COTPA's Substance Abuse Policy.
