Job description

We are a well-established multi-state equipment/service provider, offering services to industrial markets with a strong emphasis on heavy equipment and specialized fleet rental needs. The Operating Technician is responsible for providing 24-hour mill maintenance to mill operations including BOFs, Blast Furnaces, Electric Furnaces, and other mill areas, and for the safe operation of multiple types of refractory tearout equipment such as LAG, Gradall, and KT Grant machines.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair equipment at customer sites
  • Perform routine inspections and services on equipment
  • Responsible for the safe operation of refractory Tearout equipment including, but not limited to, LAG, Gradall, and KT Grant machines
  • Complete pre-shift inspections before operating equipment and grease equipment at the start of each shift
  • Complete required work orders accurately using company maintenance management software
  • Maintain a high level of customer satisfaction by understanding and addressing customer needs and time constraints
  • Respond to service calls in a timely and efficient manner
  • Follow all safety policies and procedures and use required PPE properly
  • Be on time for scheduled shifts and punch in and out on the BULK clock-in platform
  • Maintain a clean and safe work and break room environment
  • Abide by all BULK safety and operational procedures, as well as any mill-mandated safety procedures and requirements
  • During downtime, assist with any minor maintenance requirements and housekeeping
  • Create parts lists when needed and communicate with site management and/or purchasing department
  • Maintain certifications required for specific or specialized work, and licenses required to operate service vehicles
  • Keep company assets such as vehicles, laptops, diagnostic & specialty tooling in working order
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Requirements:

  • 1-3 years' experience of operating Heavy Equipment (straight boom excavators and refractory demolition experience preferred)
  • 1-3 years of mechanical experience with heavy equipment and strong working knowledge of hydraulics, powertrain, electronic/electrical systems, diesel, etc. preferred
  • Intermediate computer skills
  • Experience with diagnostic software
  • Valid driver's license with satisfactory driving record
  • Has experience running tearout machines including LG and Gradall
  • Familiarity with furnace operations and safety hazards
  • Ability to troubleshoot machine faults and adapt quickly
  • Ability to work overtime, nights, weekends, and holidays as required
  • Self-motivated and ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Good decision-making, problem-solving, troubleshooting, and creative thinking skills

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, prolonged standing, walking, and manual dexterity are required. The employee will also need to bend, climb, squat, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and lift/move up to 50 lbs.
