Job description

OUR CORE PILLARS: Safety | Operational Excellence | Shareholder Value Propulsion Controls Engineering has a current opening for a Marine Outboard Mechanic, with a minimum 3 years of marine and/or shipyard experience; at our San Diego, CA location.

Position Summery

A Marine Outboard Mechanic will diagnose, adjust, repair or overhaul outboard boat engines.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintain or repair engines, with an emphasis on Evinrude outboard engines.
  • Analyzes defects and adjusts or repairs electrical mechanical systems of outboard motors.
  • Disassembles and inspects motor for defective parts, using mechanics hand tools and gauges.
  • Replaces parts, like gears, magneto points, piston rings and spark plugs and reassembles engine.
  • Perform routine engine maintenance.
  • Maintain repair or maintenance records.
  • Demonstrates ability to appear for work on time, follow directions from a supervisor, interact well with co-workers, understand and follow work rules and procedures, comply with corporate policies, goals and objectives, accept constructive feedback, establish goals and objectives, and exhibit initiative and commitment.
  • Other duties as assigned, requested or needed.

Position Requirements:

Education and Experience:

  • High School diploma or GED certificate or equivalent education and experience.
  • 3 plus years’ experience (military/marine or ship repair industry preferred).

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to work at a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability and tolerance to meet due dates and deadlines and/or time constraints.
  • Identify complex problems and review related information to develop and determine solutions.

This position may require access to U.S. government or military sites.
