What does a weekend manufacturing software engineer do?

A Weekend Manufacturing Software Engineer is responsible for developing, maintaining, and troubleshooting software systems that support manufacturing operations, specifically during weekend shifts. They ensure that production lines run smoothly by addressing any software issues, implementing updates, and optimizing automation processes. To thrive as a Weekend Manufacturing Software Engineer, you need strong programming skills (often in languages like C++, Python, or Java), knowledge of manufacturing processes, and a relevant engineering or computer science degree. Familiarity with industrial automation systems, PLCs, SCADA software, and version control tools like Git is typically required. Excellent problem-solving abilities, adaptability, and effective communication are essential soft skills for diagnosing issues and collaborating with cross-functional teams during off-hours. These competencies ensure smooth and efficient manufacturing operations, minimize downtime, and support rapid troubleshooting in a 24/7 production environment.
