Job description

Job Summary

Under direction of the Director of Visual and Performing Arts, the Majorettes Instructor is responsible for developing and leading a dynamic Majorette program that promotes discipline, teamwork, school spirit, performance excellence, and student growth. In conjunction with the Fortune Marching Band, the Instructor will teach dance routines, marching techniques, performance skills, and choreography while fostering a positive, inclusive, and safe environment for all participants.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, and lead Majorette practices, rehearsals, and performances.
  • Teach dance techniques, marching fundamentals, performance routines, and sideline choreography.
  • Create and choreograph routines for games, parades, competitions, pep rallies, and special events.
  • Promote teamwork, confidence, discipline, and leadership among students.
  • Ensure participants follow safety procedures and maintain appropriate conduct.
  • Coordinate uniforms, music, props, and performance logistics as needed.
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, school staff, and administration.
  • Maintain attendance records, schedules, and program expectations.
  • Support recruitment and retention efforts for the Majorette program.
  • Attend scheduled events, performances, competitions, and meetings.
  • Experience in Majorette dance, drill team, cheer, dance instruction, or related performance arts.
  • Strong choreography and leadership skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with youth in a structured and encouraging environment.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to motivate and inspire students while maintaining high expectations.
  • CPR/First Aid certification preferred.
  • Background check and fingerprint clearance as required.

Preferred Skills

  • Knowledge of marching band or performance coordination.
  • Experience preparing groups for public performances and competitions.
  • Ability to teach a variety of dance styles and performance techniques.
  • Experience working in school-based or youth development programs.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to demonstrate dance movements and routines.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and move for extended periods during practices and performances.
  • Ability to lift and move equipment or supplies as needed.

Work Schedule

This position is for the 2026/2027 school year (July 1, 2026-June 30, 2027) and may require afternoon, evening, weekend, and occasional holiday hours depending on rehearsals, performances, and events.

Compensation

Maximum allotment of $5,000. This equates to 200 hours at $25/hour.
