Position: Powerline Surveying Party Chief

Location: Central and Northern Alberta - (Office in Edmonton, Alberta)

Position Overview:

Challenger Geomatics has an opening for Powerline Party Chief based out of our Edmonton office with the ability and willingness to work in and out of town. The Powerline Party Chief collects data in the field and works with our experienced project managers on projects in the utilities sector. Candidates will typically work M-F with weekends off, however; there may be times of higher workloads where weekend work may be necessary.

General Responsibilities:

  • Completes powerline surveys and works closely with the Project Manager to ensure all client objectives are met.
  • Provides necessary documentation to office staff including any field notes, computations, and other survey data.
  • Communicates effectively with team members and ensures tasks are completed on time.
  • Performs all health and safety duties as identified in the company's safety procedures.
  • Skilled with the use of survey equipment (GPS/GNSS Rovers, Locators, etc.) and ensures all company equipment and vehicles are properly operated and maintained.
  • Understand legal boundary evidence assessment and calculations.
  • Perform powerline profiling with GPS and distometer.

Required Qualifications

  • Powerline survey experience. Experience with ATCO Electric and FortisAlberta workflows is an asset.
  • Diploma or Degree in Geomatics or related discipline.
  • Must be flexible and willing to work out of town.
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license with clean driver's abstract
  • Physical fitness - party chief's work outside in tough conditions, often carrying equipment long distances.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience in other survey sectors beyond utilities.
  • Advanced Pilot (an asset)
  • Line Locating experience
  • 3D Scanner experience (an asset)
  • Valid Safety Certificates (i.e. H2S, First Aid, CSTS, Wildlife Awareness)
