Job description

Light Truck Driver

The Light Truck Driver is responsible for driving a truck within a city of industrial area to transport materials, merchandise, and or equipment between various types of establishments. Position is also, responsible for the safe, timely, and efficient transport of merchandise at Naval Station Great Lakes.

This individual drives a truck within a city of industrial area to transport materials, merchandise, and or equipment between various types of establishments. Position is also, responsible for the safe, timely, and efficient transport of merchandise at Naval Station Great Lakes. There are established pick up points between facilities in a straight truck, under 1 1/2 tons, usually four (4) wheels. In addition, the individual is responsible for completing all required paperwork efficiently and neatly.

Principal duties include:

  • Sort and prepare mail for delivery to TSC, NAVSTA and RTC.
  • Load and offload mail for delivery.
  • Drive between facilities and all established pick up points as determined by the contracted route.
  • Establish/maintain positive working relations with Goodwill staff.
  • Clean interior and exterior of vehicle at the end of each shift. Make cursory check of vehicle cleanliness throughout shift.
  • Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • One year of successful driving experience preferred.
  • Holds a minimum of Interim Secret Clearance.
  • Valid Driver License.
  • Driving record acceptable to insurance carrier.

Core competencies include:

  • Proven, safe driving record.
  • High level of professionalism.
  • Able to establish/maintain positive working relationships.
  • Ability to work under stress, in fast paced environment.
  • Ensure vehicle is fueled at the end of shift.
  • Complete required DOT pre/post trip inspection of vehicle and paperwork of inspection.

Physical/sensory demands include:

  • Able to sit for long periods of time.
  • Ability to recognize colors (i.e. signs, stoplights, etc.).
  • Work involves exposure to the elements indoor and outdoor.
  • Extensive physical activity. Requires physical work: heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling required of objects over 50 pounds.

The pay rate for this position is $26.72.
