Job description

Job Overview

The 3D Field Capture Technician will be responsible for conducting comprehensive site surveys using advanced imaging and measurement tools, including LiDAR scanners, Matterport 3D scanners, 360° cameras, UAVs (drones), laser measurement devices, tape measures and other specialized field equipment. This role involves capturing 3D scans, 360 imagery, aerial surveys, and organizing structured data to support client projects across a range of industries.

This position requires frequent travel across the U.S. and offers the opportunity to work in diverse environments, ranging from iconic historical spaces to industrial sites. The ideal candidate will be adaptable, detail-oriented, and comfortable working with various imaging technologies to ensure accurate, high-quality data capture that meets specific project needs. Candidate will be responsible for uploading collected data to designated platforms, ensuring it is organized, accessible and meets client specifications for review and use. Candidate will be punctual and thorough when it comes to logging site data and following written procedures.

Requirements

· Education: High School Diploma or higher education

· Travel: 50–80% overnight travel required each month; willingness to spend several consecutive days on the away from home.

· Work Schedule: Work is generally structured around daylight hours with rotating rest cycles prioritizing weekend days. Occasional overnight and weekend shifts will be required. Technician schedules are assigned quarterly through a seniority-based bidding system and include built-in guaranteed rest cycles to provide predictability.

Currently technicians operate on a 10/4 rest cycle remaining available for service for 10 consecutive days with Friday-Monday off.

In practice, technicians may know their assignments a few days in advance at times, but often must be prepared for schedule changes up until 6pm the day prior.

This may include shifting start times or being assigned to out-of-town work with short notice. Employees must remain flexible and willing to work mandatory overtime as business needs arise during working days.

· Physical Capabilities: Comfortable with extended walking/standing, ladder usage, extended periods of time on commercial flat roofs, and occasional work in challenging environments. Must be able to lift at least 25 LBS regularly and 50 LBS irregularly.

· Environment: Willingness to occasionally work outdoors and working in buildings with no active climate control

· Technical Skills: Proficient in using basic computing platforms and mobile applications, with strong problem-solving skills and technical aptitude.

· Attention to Detail: Ability to follow workflows with precise requirements using critical analysis to make operating decisions in the field.

· Travel Requirements: Valid driver’s license with a reasonably clean record; willingness to drive long distances. Reliable vehicle required for local assignments, but use of company vehicles will be prioritized 90% of the time.

Candidate must also be willing to fly on commercial aircraft to travel to worksites.

· Location: Must be able to report to the Chicago, IL office.

· Background Check: No felony convictions or misdemeanors related to theft, violence, or dishonesty.

· Certification: Must independently obtain Part 107 FAA Drone Certification within 45 days of hire as a condition of continued employment.

Preferred Qualifications

· Education: Associate’s degree, trade school training, or military experience preferred

· Certifications: Currently hold a Part 107 UAS FAA Drone License with at least 1 year of flight experience; applicants currently holding an OSHA 10 training certificate or (MEWP) Mobile Elevating Work Platform certificate is a plus!

· Experience: Previous experience in 3D reality capture, construction, technical trades, surveying, building inspection, facilities management, transportation or similar fields. In addition, the ideal candidate will have experience working independently with a strong technical background and problem-solving skills.

· Work Background: Prior experience working shift work, on-call and/or traveling for work. We are open to candidates with a diverse background when it comes to being detail oriented and reliable with a flexible schedule.
