Senior Technician

Astrion has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Technician to join our team at the Prototype Development Lab (PDL), located at the iconic Kennedy Space Center. In this role, you’ll provide expert mechanical, pneumatic, fluid systems, and testing support to ensure the readiness of critical launch equipment and systems. This is an onsite position that may require occasional overtime, weekends, and potential shift work depending on operational needs.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS 

  • High school diploma or General Equivalence Diploma and completion of related technical training curriculum
  • 10 Years of related experience
  • Safe driving record
  • CNC equipment maintenance experience

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS

  • Experience with machine shop and fabrication equipment including CNC and manual mills and lathes, laser cutting center, water jet cutting center, laser engraver, UV ink printer, parts tumblers and wastewater processing center, material shear, sheet metal press brake, and band saws
  • Experience with HAAS mills and lathes, certification is a plus
  • Electrical and computer troubleshooting ability, certification is a plus
  • Forklift trained or ability to become an operator
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and customer interface skills
  • Ability to work effectively and cooperatively in a team environment and have a pleasant disposition under fast paced and sometimes stressful situations
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects without missing deadlines or sacrificing accuracy
  • Must be self-motivated, demonstrate initiative, and be able to work independently or with minimal supervision
  • Competent in the use of the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook) and SharePoint
  • Position may involve extended periods of sitting or standing
  • Physical requirements: sitting, walking, standing for extending periods of time, Ability to lift and move materials up to 50 lb., will be required to climb stairs to access equipment for trouble shooting
  • Position may require travel to different areas on site and some occasional outside work
  • Walking on uneven terrain including paved areas, gravel/rocks, and dirt/sand is required to access various locations on the facility
  • Climbing ladders, stairs, and platforms may be necessary.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Inspection and maintenance of safety equipment
  •  
  • Replacing expired components on pressure systems
  • Assembly and repair of mechanical systems and occasional repair of inoperative equipment where practical
  • Soldering and wire termination in support of electrical system assembly
  • Maintaining chemical inventories, coordinating removal of hazardous waste and expired chemicals
  • Maintaining the laboratories inventory of supplies and consumables
  • Keeping the laboratory clean and organized
  • Perform any other related and/or associate duties as required
