Job description

Position: General Labourer II

Reports To: Production Supervisor

Summary:

The General Labourer II is responsible for working on the production line manually packing fresh or frozen products into bags and packaged products into boxes as per company standards and customer specifications. The General Labourer II follows instructions from the Lead Hand, Supervisor or Manager and ensures all work performed adheres to Food Safety standards as well as Health & Safety regulations and guidelines. This is a labour-intensive position requiring individuals to perform repetitive tasks and stand for long periods of time in a temperature-controlled environment.

Job Duties

  • Manually pack fresh and frozen product as per customer specifications
  • Follow all production procedures as instructed, maintaining high production numbers to meet customer orders
  • Understand and review the finished product, recognizing areas of defect and taking appropriate actions to communicate and rectify them
  • Perform all work to organizational standards to ensure final product meets food safety and quality standards
  • Ensure general housekeeping around assigned area or request assistance as needed
  • Work effectively as part of a team to ensure productivity and efficiency
  • Follow all standard operating procedures, company policies and provincial and federal safety guidelines
  • Participate in training and cross-training, and help coworkers as needed
  • Other duties shall be assigned as required

Requirements

  • High School Diploma, or equivalent work experience
  • Previous production work considered an asset
  • Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), preferably in a food manufacturing facility
  • Highly punctual with a strong work ethic
  • Highly flexible, with solid interpersonal skills that allow working effectively in a diverse work environment
  • Willing and able to follow specific instructions
  • Ability to speak, read and write English
  • Ability to perform repetitive tasks with little supervision
  • Ability to work as a team
  • Commitment to accuracy and detail-oriented
  • Ability to perform under pressure and work in a fast-paced environment

Work Conditions / Physical Demands:

  • Physical ability to lift up to 60 pounds (heavy lifting required)
  • Work is performed in a combination of environments, including meat production room in temperatures of -1 to +4 degrees Celsius
  • Safety equipment is required, e.g. steel-toe safety boots, safety glasses/goggles, hearing protection, etc.
  • Repetitive tasks within a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to stand, bend, and reach for long periods of time
  • Manual dexterity required
  • Overtime as required
