Reporting within the School of Health and Wellness, the Laboratory Assistant supports the efficient operation and organization of foundational laboratory courses. This role is responsible for coordinating the procurement, storage, distribution, and inventory of laboratory supplies and equipment while ensuring laboratory spaces remain organized, safe, and fully operational.

Success in this role requires exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and a collaborative approach. You'll support faculty and learners by preparing laboratories for instructional activities, maintaining equipment, monitoring inventory, and ensuring laboratory operations comply with safety regulations and industry standards. Through your work, you'll contribute to creating an environment where students and faculty can successfully deliver and participate in high-quality experiential learning.

What You'll Be Doing:

Manage Laboratory Inventory and Supplies: Ensure laboratory supplies, equipment, and materials are available, organized, and properly maintained to support instructional activities. In collaboration with faculty, you will assist with the set-up and take-down of equipment, organize materials for demonstrations and exercises, and ensure resources are prepared according to course requirements.

You will monitor laboratory equipment and facilities for functionality and safety, complete routine checks, and promptly report any malfunctions, maintenance needs, or safety concerns to support uninterrupted laboratory operations.

You will help maintain clean, organized, and efficient laboratory environments, including supporting appropriate waste disposal and the safe handling of hazardous materials.

Through your support, you will contribute to a positive learning environment where students and faculty have the resources needed to successfully participate in laboratory activities.

Promote Safety and Compliance: Foster a culture of safety by following and promoting laboratory safety protocols, guidelines, and best practices among students, faculty, and staff. You will stay current with safety regulations, industry standards, and operational requirements related to laboratory environments.

You will participate in safety training and emergency response activities and serve as a resource in supporting safe laboratory practices and procedures.

Collaborate and Communicate with Stakeholders: Build effective working relationships with faculty, simulation staff, leadership, vendors, and students to understand laboratory requirements and ensure operational needs are met. Through clear and timely communication, you will coordinate the availability and delivery of supplies and equipment, support course requirements, and contribute to the overall effectiveness of laboratory operations.

What Sets You Apart

You are a proactive and organized professional who enjoys supporting others behind the scenes to create exceptional learning experiences. You take pride in maintaining well-organized workspaces, managing competing priorities, and ensuring laboratory operations run smoothly and efficiently.

Your experience in a healthcare or educational environment has equipped you with strong attention to detail, excellent customer service and communication skills, and an understanding of the importance of accuracy, safety, and collaboration.
