Summary
The lab technician will be responsible for all analysis, maintenance, ordering, cleaning and testing of a biological waste water treatment plant in a DNR certified laboratory.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
The essential duties for this job include the following, but other duties may be assigned.
  • Sample Collection & Analysis: Collect plant influent, effluent, and sludge samples. Perform tests for pH, Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD), Total Suspended Solids (TSS), nutrients, fecal coliforms, FOG, etc.
  • Compliance & Reporting: Maintain accurate records of raw data to satisfy state (e.g., Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources) and EPA environmental compliance regulations.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Calibrate, clean, and maintain laboratory instrumentation (e.g., incubators, spectrophotometers, analytical balances)
  • Quality Control: Prepare reagents and standards, and maintain strict Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) protocols.
  • Operational Support: Advise treatment plant operators on process controls and treatment adjustments based on lab findings.
  • Strong data analysis, proficiency in chemical calculations, and reasoning.

Education & Experience
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) is required. Associate's degree (A.A.;A.S.) in related discipline from a two-year college or technical school is strongly preferred. One-year related experience or training is required, two years is preferred.
