Job Summary
We are seeking a highly motivated individual for a Laboratory Technician to support translational neuroscience and peripheral nerve research projects. This position involves performing core experimental procedures with minimal supervision in an NIH-funded project investigating the mechanisms of peripheral nerve injury and repair.
Our research employs multidisciplinary approaches, including advanced immunohistochemistry and histological analysis, comprehensive animal behavioral testing, muscle and nerve electrophysiology, genetically modified animal models, as well as spatial transcriptomics and proteomics.
Primary responsibilities include performing rodent nerve surgeries, behavioral and physiological assessments, tissue processing, data recording, analysis, and reporting, and may provide support for genomics and proteomics when applicable. This role is ideal for someone who is organized, proactive, technically strong, and interested in contributing to clinically relevant research.
Responsibilities
  • Perform animal anesthesia, surgical procedures, perioperative monitoring, recovery, and euthanasia in compliance with institutional guidelines.
  • Conduct behavioral, histological, or physiological assays using laboratory equipment.
  • Support tissue-based molecular workflows (e.g., RNA extraction), and sample preparation for genomics and proteomics, and additional experimental workflows as needed
  • Perform or assist with data quantification, statistical analyses, and prepare reports summarizing experimental findings; maintain accurate experimental records and sample inventories.
  • Assist with laboratory operations, including procurement and inventory management of supplies and materials, coordination of experimental timelines, and adherence to research protocols.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry, or other scientific disciplines in a related field or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience) required; knowledge of complex laboratory techniques, equipment, terminology, materials and substances. Skilled in the use of laboratory equipment, ability to create and analyze statistical calculations and prepare reports required; and demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills also required. OSHA training and certification in animal care and use or the willingness to complete the certification may be required by some departments.
This position is patient-sensitive and must fulfill all associated requirements. Preferences
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Prior laboratory experience with advanced scientific techniques and procedures.
  • Experience with rodent handling, survival surgery, and perioperative care strongly preferred.
  • Experience with statistical analysis and data interpretation (e.g., GraphPad, R, or similar tools).
  • Experience with quantitative analyses including image analysis using ImageJ/Fiji or similar software.
  • Experience preparing scientific reports or documentation.
  • Familiarity with histology, immunohistochemistry, molecular biology techniques, or RNA extraction.
  • Background in neuroscience, peripheral nerve, or translational biomedical research is a plus.
