Weekend Javascript Developer information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Weekend Javascript Developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Weekend Javascript Developer, you need strong proficiency in JavaScript, HTML, CSS, and experience with modern frameworks like React or Node.js, often supported by a degree in computer science or equivalent experience. Familiarity with source control systems (like Git), code editors (such as VS Code), and cloud platforms (AWS or Azure) is typically required. Excellent time management, communication skills, and the ability to work independently are vital soft skills for this role. These skills ensure you can efficiently deliver quality code on tight weekend timelines and collaborate effectively with remote or distributed teams.

What can a Weekend Javascript Developer expect in terms of team collaboration and communication with full-time staff?

As a Weekend Javascript Developer, you will typically collaborate with full-time developers and project managers through online communication platforms such as Slack, Jira, or email. While you may not be present during regular weekday meetings, clear documentation and asynchronous updates are crucial for staying aligned with ongoing projects. You may be responsible for tackling specific tasks or bug fixes that can be completed independently, but regular check-ins and code reviews help ensure your work integrates smoothly with the team's efforts. Flexibility, proactive communication, and familiarity with remote collaboration tools will be key to your success in this role.

What are Weekend Javascript Developers?

Weekend Javascript Developers are professionals who specialize in using Javascript and related technologies to build or maintain web applications, but work primarily on weekends. They may take on freelance, contract, or part-time roles to help companies tackle projects during off-hours or to support continuous development needs. These developers often work remotely and are expected to be proficient in Javascript frameworks such as React, Angular, or Vue. Their responsibilities can include bug fixing, feature development, and collaborating with teams asynchronously. This role is ideal for those seeking flexible work schedules or supplementary income.

What is the difference between Weekend Javascript Developer vs Part-Time Front-End Developer?

Job description

About Pantheon

Pantheon brings together exceptional builders who take ownership, drive meaningful impact, and shape what's next for the web. We power more than 300,000 websites globally for organizations including Google, Princeton, Salesloft, Clorox, and the United Nations. Every day, thousands of developers and marketers use our WebOps platform to build, iterate, and scale WordPress, Drupal, and Next.js sites that reach billions of people worldwide. As an employer, we operate with the same philosophy that drives our product: foundation and freedom. Pantheon is a vibrant, remote-forward team of experts who care deeply about their craft and results. Here, you take ownership of work that matters, contribute alongside exceptional people, and see the impact you create.

The Role

The Pantheon Developer Relations Department is offering a full-time position for a Senior Developer Advocate, focused on illustrating professional usage of Next.js on Pantheon

What you need to Succeed:

Developer Relations at Pantheon works to ensure that teams using the web frameworks we support can build the best possible sites on our platform. To support this mission this role will switch between two modes of working:

  • Communicating outward to the web development community about best practices (and how they are supported by Pantheon).
  • Communicating inward to Pantheon's staff about how we need to evolve to meet market expectations.

While communication skill is the baseline requirement for both of those modes of work, we are looking for candidates who can also execute technical changes. Sometimes it is better for the Developer Advocate to make a sample repo or a pull request themselves. This role is a Senior Developer Advocate for Next.js specifically. The activities of your day-to-day responsibilities should largely be assumed to be performed through the lens of Next.js and/or Node.js implementations.

Expected activities include:

  • Write blog posts that take a clear point of view on technologies integrated with Pantheon.
  • Owns the quality of technical content and helps drive documentation efforts
  • Advise a limited set of individual customers in one-on-one discussions.
  • Record video tutorials and prepare webinars, technical presentations and workshops that demonstrate product usage.
  • Simplify technical information: Translate complex technical concepts into clear and colloquial language suitable for users with varying levels of technical expertise.
  • Actively participate in relevant online and offline community discussions.
  • Speak at conferences about best practices.
  • Oversee open source projects maintained by Pantheon
  • Collaborate with Product Managers to prioritize upcoming features.
  • Provide early feedback on forthcoming features.
  • Leads team discussions and provides guidance and mentorship on areas of subject matter expertise to fellow team members and the broader community.

What you Bring to the Table

  • 5 years of experience working in web development.
  • Significant experience creating technical content for a developer audience.
  • Experience building and maintaining high-quality Next.js sites.
  • Experience authoring and maintaining npm packages.
  • A track record of effective public communication through channels like conference presentations and blog posts.
  • Familiarity with, and perspective upon, the rising and falling trends in web architectures and JavaScript frameworks.
  • Ability to build cross-functional partnerships and relationships.
  • Comfort engaging directly with customers in venues like video calls, Slack, and conference booths.
  • Comfortable working independently with minimal supervision.
  • Proficiency with the tools of open source collaboration.

What We Offer:

We have all the usual perks and benefits but what we can really offer you is a fantastic work environment powered by an amazing team.

  • Industry competitive compensation and equity plan
  • Flexible time off, sick days, and 13 paid holidays
  • Comprehensive medical insurance including Health, Dental and Vision
  • Paid parental leave (plus fertility, adoption and other family planning benefits)
  • In-office workspace (San Francisco)
  • Monthly allowance for wellness, reading and access to LinkedIn Learning for continued development
  • Events and activities both team-based and company wide that inspire, educate and cultivate

Pantheon is an equal opportunity employer and we welcome applications from all backgrounds regardless of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, ancestry, age, marital status, sexual orientation, gender identity, veteran status, disability, or any other classification protected by law. Pantheon complies with federal and local disability laws and makes reasonable accommodations for applicants and employees with disabilities. If you need a reasonable accommodation due to a disability for any part of the interview process, please contact talent@pantheon.io.
