Summary/Objective

The Design Engineer can work within a dynamic group to meet project goals and timelines. The person in this position must be well organized, detail oriented, and have the flexibility to handle multiple project assignments.

Essential Functions

  1. This position is responsible for creating R&D for all departments in the plant which includes but not limited to; Bus, Rail & Marine seating and accessories.
  1. Design new seats, options, accessories, and other products
  2. Analyze project proposals and perform engineering studies to determine feasibility and timing
  1. Cost estimates and bill of materials
  1. Manage projects including coordination of resources and communication to stakeholders
  1. Develop designs for complete seating structures and production programs
  1. Modify existing designs for new applications and various vehicle layouts
  2. Serve as application expert during the review of new seat designs so they can easily adapt to current and new customer vehicles
  1. Collects, reads, interprets and sees related reference documents and drawings prepares by other disciplines, vendors or outside sources
  2. Ensures compliance with approved design standards to provide quality design, safety, constructability, reliable operation, construction economy and operating convenience
  3. Reviews and checks calculations, design models, drawings, and design documents for quality, accuracy, neatness, functionality as observed in finished product audits
  1. Interface with customers, sales team, vendor representatives, manufacturing engineers, and lab technicians
  2. Evaluate existing designs and recommend opportunities for improvement

Pay Range:

Salary Range: $75,000 - $80,000

Freedman by Lippert determines pay based on several factors, including but not limited to the position being offered, education, skills, work experience, and other factors permitted by law. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range.

Required Education and Experience

  1. Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
  2. 3D CAD part and assembly modeling (Solid Edge preferred)
  3. Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  4. Ability to work on multiple projects concurrently within a fast-paced environment

Preferred Education and Experience 

  1. Sheet metal design expertise and process knowledge
  2. Injection molding design knowledge and process understanding
  3. Experience creating, executing, and maintaining DVP&R
  4. DFM and DFA understanding
  5. DFMEA and PFMEA exposure
  6. Ability to understand and use GD&T
  7. Knowledge of FMVSS and APTA White Book Standards
