Job description

Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Maintenance Technician to join our team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong mechanical, technical, and electrical background, with the ability to troubleshoot and repair various systems. This role requires a proactive approach to maintenance, ensuring that all equipment and facilities are operating efficiently. Current millwright experience desired. The Maintenance Technician will be responsible for performing routine inspections, repairs, and maintenance tasks while adhering to safety standards.

Duties :

  • Perform regular maintenance and repairs on mechanical and electrical systems to include fixing, rebuilding, replacing, adjusting, preventive, lubricating, and cleaning pumps, blowers, conveyors, fans, filters, piping, valves, drives, agitators, rotating equipment, tanks, mills, dryers, packaging systems, moving equipment /kilns, heat exchangers, bulk handling systems, etc. as assigned. Occasionally MT completes assigned tasks in major projects such as kiln / dryer refractory renewal, dust collectors, scrubber’s, full plant outages, etc.
  • Read and interpret schematics to troubleshoot issues effectively.
  • Utilize Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (JDE) for tracking work orders and inventory.
  • Fabricate parts as needed to ensure timely repairs.
  • Supervise junior maintenance staff during projects or repairs as required.
  • Ability to use specialized tools such as ultrasonic thickness tester, laser alignment instrument, belt laser alignment tool, laptop computer/software, balancing device, drill press, hydraulic press, power saws, oxy-acetylene torch, etc.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment, ensuring all tools and equipment are properly stored, knowledgeable in storeroom stock, inventory withdrawal, use of JDE system for parts lookup, equipment parts lists, etc.
  • Respond promptly to maintenance requests from staff or management.

Experience :

  • Must possess at least 7 years' experience in at least two primary craft skills: steel welding, stainless steel welding, pipefitting, millwright, general mechanical
  • Must possess at least 7 years' experience in at least two secondary craft skills: rigging, crane operation, mobile equipment operation, plumbing, or carpentry
  • Mobile equipment - certified in at least 3 of the following: truck, forklift, mini-loader, front end loader, backhoe, mower, man-lift
  • Strong ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to understand and apply mechanical principles
  • Experience using CMMS (JDE) for tracking maintenance activities is preferred.
  • Previous supervisory experience is beneficial but not required.
  • Experience in supporting Health and Safety onsite

Qualifications :

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Certification in at least 2 of the Primary & Secondary craft skills listed above
  • 7-10 years' experience working with machinery, mechanical and chemical processes
  • No fear of heights or confined spaces
  • Experience with materials handling techniques and safety practices
  • Proficient computer skills, the ability to use software and enter data
  • Excellent attention to detail and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot equipment issues effectively
  • Commitment to maintaining high standards of safety and quality

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Standout Experience: centrifugal pump rebuilds with mechanical seal installations.
  • Centrifuge disassembly, rebuild and reassembly.
  • Axial flow pump rebuilds.
  • Shop fabrication with an emphasis on welding practices, GTAW, SMAW and GMAW.
  • Millwright experience desired
  • Lathes, boring mills and milling machines.
  • Reliability Best Practices CMRP, CRE and REC.
  • Previous supervisory experience.

Environmental Conditions:

  • Job duties occur both inside and outside. There is exposure to extreme temperatures, moisture, humidity, and high decibel areas. Work may be required during inclement weather.
  • Gases, dust, odors, fumes, and mists associated with normal chemical plant operation may be present. Use of proper PPE is required when hazardous conditions are present.
  • In production areas employees must wear company supplied protective equipment such as hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection, respirator, gloves, chemical suite and protective footwear.
  • Must be able to climb stairs, bend, stoop, walk, twist, grasp, pull, push, reach overhead, and lift up to 50 pounds
