JOB SUMMARY Under general direction from the Power Plant Supervisor to install, test, calibrate, maintain, and repair all power plant automatic process control and recording equipment instruments, gauges, analyzers, transducers, sensors, transmitters, switches, computer systems and their component parts. Examples of Duties DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Program, configure, modify and maintain the distributed control system hardware and software.

Develop, troubleshoot and/or modify control system logic, operator interface consoles, plant logs, reports, graphics, calculations, input and output devices. Maintain accurate records of modifications, and configuration backups. Maintain and repair emissions monitoring system analyzers and computers.

Maintain, troubleshoot and repair turbine generator governor systems, generator excitation systems, voltage regulators, vibration monitors, field instruments and protective controls. Troubleshoot and repair various types of programmable logic controllers, transmitters, monitors, analyzers and field instruments. Maintain archive files of all data collected by these systems.

Install, test, calibrate and repair all field instrumentation including; temperature, pressure, level, flow, vibration, and quality analyzers, transducers, sensors, switches, transmitters plus associated components and subsystems. Perform skilled diagnostics using a wide range of specialized test and calibration equipment. Read and interpret various types of technical drawings, logic drawings, and schematics.

Maintain all calibration and test equipment in proper working order. Participate in a preventive maintenance program. Enter and complete work orders, record device condition, pull required parts from inventory, record parts used, and work performed.

Develop instrument calibration and maintenance procedures and technical files. Assist with calibration and repair training for coworkers. Respond to emergency call out as required.

Assist in similar activities at other District power generating stations. Perform other related duties as required or assigned by supervisor. Typical Qualifications QUALIFICATIONS Any combination of experience and education that would likely provide the required skills and abilities is qualifying.

A typical way to obtain the skills and abilities would be: Education Equivalent to two (2) years of college level course work in electronics, instrumentation and electrical theory and technology. Equivalent work experience in instrumentation and controls may be substituted for education. Strong mathematical background in algebra, geometry and trigonometry preferred.

Experience Successful completion of an approved apprenticeship program in Instrument and Controls or recognized status as a journeyman Instrument & Controls Technician; in an electrical power generation facility. Skills and Abilities Interpersonal and Communications Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in written form on a technical level with coworkers, supervision, other District employees, customers and representatives of other agencies. Establish and maintain effective work relationships with those contacted in the performance of required duties.

Work with others in a team environment. Ability to work alone or in conjunction with other employees and make decisions which affect the safe operation of the generation facility, without direct supervision. Ability to think clearly and rationally, and make critical decisions during plant upsets or other emergencies.

Technical and Analytical Knowledge of: principles methods, materials, tools and equipment used in the installation, calibration, maintenance and repair of electrical, and electronic instrumentation controls and systems. Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, plans, specifications, electrical schematics, logic drawings, and technical manuals. Ability to competently use various types of electronic tools, test and calibration equipment.

Administration and Operations Use independent judgment and initiative. Ability to work with minimal supervision. Maintain detailed calibration records and reporting procedures.

Serve as acting Power Plant Supervisor as assigned. Supplemental Information Necessary Special Requirement Possession of an appropriate California driver's license. This classification may be assigned to work an 8, 10 or 12 hour rotating shift schedule and weekends.

This classification will be required to work a scheduled on-call period. Employees who are assigned an on-call period must respond to either workstation within forty-five (45) minutes of the time he or she is called out. This classification's workstations are defined as the Almond Power Plant, the Walnut Energy Center, or other assigned power plant.

The on-call employee must obey all applicable traffic laws when responding to a call out. While the minimum passing score is 70%, candidates who score highest may be considered for advancement in the recruitment process.
