Job description

HOURS: M - F 12:30pm -9:00pm/Rotating Weekends and Holidays
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Operational Support and Scheduling - In addition to the work performed as an LST or Phlebotomist, assist the department leadership by coordinating daily operations and scheduling backup coverage when needed. This includes ensuring that a process assistant is available for the supervisor and confirming that site-specific mitigation plans are accurate and complete. Act as a secondary point of support for patient concerns and complaints when the supervisor is unavailable.
Staffing and Workflow Management - Monitor and adjust bench assignments in real time to accommodate call-offs, PTO, or areas with heavy workloads. Provide assistance and reallocate staff as needed. Oversee workflow to ensure timely completion of tasks such as second reviews of manual entries, scanning requisitions, and filing paperwork.
Troubleshooting and Communication - Serve as an available resource for resolving complex sample issues and test order questions. Act as an additional point of contact for coordination with site or unit leadership regarding inpatient phlebotomy or TRC needs. Facilitate clear communication between teams to maintain smooth operations.
Waived Testing Leadership - Take ownership of waived testing responsibilities by coordinating key operator duties and ensuring compliance with established protocols. This leadership role involves maintaining standards for testing accuracy and supporting the team in meeting regulatory and quality requirements.
Training and Process Improvement - Support preceptors by helping assign training responsibilities and observing training methods to ensure quality. Collaborate on process improvement initiatives and participate in testing new practices or changes. Communicate observations and data-driven insights to the supervisor for retraining and coaching opportunities.
Scope: Provides support to the Clinical Laboratories' Phlebotomy and Lab Support leadership who have a minimum of 5 direct reports in areas of high complexity and operational activity.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 4+ years technical experience in a related laboratory setting
  • Demonstrated leadership experience
  • Preferred: Phlebotomy or Medical Assistant certification, OR Associate's degree in science
