Job description
The Infection Prevention Manager is a strategic leader responsible for directing the organization's infection prevention and control program across the Lakeway and Austin facilities. This role partners closely with the Infection Prevention and Control Medical Director, clinical leaders, and multidisciplinary teams to develop, implement, and evaluate evidence-based infection prevention strategies that promote patient safety, regulatory compliance, and high-quality care.
The ideal candidate is a Certified Infection Preventionist (CIC-CBIC) with strong leadership experience, expertise in epidemiology, and a passion for driving quality improvement initiatives. This position requires regular travel between the Lakeway and Austin locations.
Essential Responsibilities- Lead and oversee the infection prevention and control program, ensuring compliance with organizational goals and regulatory requirements.
- Supervise, coach, develop, and evaluate Infection Prevention staff, including hiring, performance management, training, scheduling, and employee development.
- Develop, implement, and maintain infection prevention policies, procedures, and evidence-based practices that reduce healthcare-associated infections.
- Design and manage the organization's annual infection surveillance plan based on patient populations, services provided, and surveillance findings.
- Analyze infection surveillance data, identify trends, recommend interventions, and monitor outcomes using epidemiologic principles and statistical methods.
- Lead investigations of infection prevention concerns and implement corrective actions to mitigate risks.
- Ensure ongoing compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards, including The Joint Commission, CDC, OSHA, FDA, CMS, and applicable state and federal agencies.
- Serve as the infection prevention subject matter expert by providing consultation to physicians, nursing, clinical staff, and operational leaders regarding communicable diseases, isolation precautions, and infection control best practices.
- Partner with multidisciplinary teams to support quality improvement initiatives that enhance patient safety and reduce infection risks.
- Prepare and present infection prevention metrics, surveillance findings, and performance reports to leadership committees, hospital leadership, and public health agencies as appropriate.
- Develop and deliver infection prevention education and training programs that promote regulatory compliance, employee awareness, and safe patient care practices.
- Manage departmental operations, including budget development, resource planning, vendor evaluation, and recommendations for infection prevention products and equipment.
- Participate in organizational committees, emergency preparedness initiatives, and other duties as assigned.
- Certification in Infection Control (CIC-CBIC) required.
- Demonstrated leadership experience in Infection Prevention within an acute care or healthcare setting.
- Strong knowledge of epidemiology, healthcare-associated infection surveillance, and infection prevention practices.
- Experience interpreting and applying regulatory and accreditation standards.
- Master's degree in Nursing, Public Health, Microbiology, Epidemiology, or a related healthcare field.
- Experience leading infection prevention programs across multiple facilities.
- Experience presenting infection prevention data and recommendations to executive leadership.
- Extensive knowledge of infection prevention, epidemiology, and healthcare-associated infection surveillance.
- Strong understanding of regulatory and accreditation standards, including The Joint Commission, CDC, OSHA, FDA, CMS, and HHS requirements.
- Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and influence organizational change.
- Excellent analytical skills with experience interpreting surveillance data and identifying actionable trends.
- Strong project management and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Exceptional written, verbal, and presentation skills.
- Ability to build collaborative relationships with physicians, nursing leadership, executive leadership, and interdisciplinary teams.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and infection surveillance software applications.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor, coach, and develop high-performing teams while fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
