Position Summary

CPI is seeking a coatings professional to support inspection, assessment, and consulting work for Water/Wastewater Infrastructure clients in the Chicago area. This role involves field inspections, condition assessments, failure analysis, and technical reporting related to protective coatings and linings. This position is remote with regular field work at client sites in the region.

Responsibilities

  • Perform coatings and linings inspections for concrete and steel structures.
  • Conduct condition assessments of tanks, piping, vessels, and equipment.
  • Complete coating/lining failure analyses, including sampling and testing.
  • Provide technical guidance on protective coating systems.
  • Perform field QA inspections to verify compliance with specifications.
  • Prepare clear, detailed technical reports.
  • Support proposal development (scope, schedule, cost).
  • Manage multiple projects and client schedules.
  • Involvement in local industry organizations and chapters for business development.
  • Travel for short‑duration industrial assignments (~25%); regular local travel required.

Physical Requirements

Physical ability to perform field tasks such as climbing ladders/scaffolding, lifting and carrying up to ~50lbs on occasion, using power tools for sample collection, and working at heights or in confined spaces, with reasonable accommodations as needed.

Required Qualifications

  • AMPP CIP Level 2 or Level 3 (or NACE/SSPC equivalent).
  • Approximately 10 years of practical experience in coating inspection or related work.
  • Strong attention to detail and field execution awareness.
  • Effective communication and client management skills.
  • Excellent time management and ability to work independently
  • Willingness to learn other disciplines within the scope of Corrosion Probe’s work.
  • Strong organizational and teamwork skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Water/Wastewater industry experience.
  • Experience with concrete coating/lining systems.
  • CCI level 1 or 2.
  • AMPP PCS certification.
  • Knowledge of metallurgy or welding.
  • Experience with specifications (writing & review).
  • Experience performing Condition Assessments and Failure Analyses.
  • Ability to meet deadlines within budgeted hours.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • Related certifications (NACE, SSPC, ANST, ICRI).
