Job description

Foster CM Group is seeking a qualified Transportation Inspector with experience in roadway lighting systems, traffic signals, and transportation infrastructure projects to support municipal and transportation improvement projects throughout the Dallas–Fort Worth area.
The ideal candidate will have hands-on inspection experience with transportation construction activities, utility coordination, signalization systems, roadway illumination, and contractor compliance verification. This position requires strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively with project teams, contractors, and agency representatives.
Key Responsibilities
  • Perform field inspections for transportation construction projects
  • Inspect installation of:
    • Traffic signals
    • Roadway lighting
    • Conduit systems
    • Fiber optic systems
    • Electrical pull boxes and foundations
    • Signal poles and mast arms
  • Verify contractor work complies with:
    • Approved plans and specifications
    • MUTCD standards
    • Local and state transportation requirements
  • Document daily inspection reports and project activities
  • Coordinate with contractors, utility providers, and project stakeholders
  • Review traffic control implementation and safety compliance
  • Monitor construction schedules and identify potential issues
  • Assist with punch list development and project closeout
  • Attend project meetings and provide status updates
Required Qualifications
  • Minimum of 3–5 years of transportation inspection experience
  • Experience with traffic signal and roadway lighting projects
  • Knowledge of TxDOT, municipal, or transportation agency standards
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and electronic reporting systems
  • Valid Texas driver's license with acceptable driving record
Preferred Qualifications
  • TxDOT certifications
  • IMSA Traffic Signal Inspector certification
  • Experience with DART, municipal, or aviation transportation projects
  • Electrical or utility inspection experience
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Ability to stand, walk, and traverse active construction sites
  • Occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds
Work Environment:
  • The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving machinery & mechanical parts, uneven ground, exposure to dust, gas or fumes, exposure to loud noise, and outside weather conditions.
Physical Requirements:
  • The physical requirements must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Intermittent unassisted sitting, walking, standing, bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, twisting, stooping, crawling, pushing and lifting is required. Must be able to walk and/or stand for prolonged periods of time for at least eight hours per day. The employee must frequently lift and/or move light equipment up to 50 pounds without assistance. Must be alert to equipment in the field, occasional need to work near hazardous equipment and machinery, ability to walk on uneven ground while physically maneuvering construction sites, ability to work in extreme temperatures or humidity, and potentially work at heights.
Other Requirements:
  • Possession of a valid state of residence driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Daily travel to and from construction sites, generally within 100 miles from the home office is expected. Short term, out of town, assignments may be required. Long term, out of town, assignments may be required, with advance notice of planned dates.
  • May be required to work protracted and irregular hours to meet client's needs, including nights, overtime and weekends.
