Job Title
The City of Eustis is seeking a trustworthy, responsible individual who, under general supervision, performs manual, mechanical work involving the operation and maintenance of lift station equipment and grounds.
Essential Job Functions
The essential job functions include:
- Conducts preventive maintenance program of lift-stations by inspecting pumps, motors, compressors, valves, float control systems;
- Performs maintenance and minor repairs on lift stations such as lubricating motors and equipment, replacing packing in pumps and valves, replacing bearings in motors and pumps, etc.;
- Maintains cleanliness of lift station equipment and machinery;
- Operates pumps, valves, motors, controls and switches;
- Installs new equipment;
- Cleans and installs pipes and pipe-fittings;
- Assists Lift Station Mechanic with difficult or highly complicated maintenance or repair tasks;
- Prepares and submits departmental forms and paperwork;
- Maybe required to work on-call or rotation during weekends and nights;
- Works on-call, as needed, during emergency situations such as hurricanes, severe weather, etc.;
- Assists in the preparation for and aftermath of a major emergency such as a hurricane or other storm or disaster.
Other job functions include:
- Performs general maintenance and labor work such as mowing, cleaning, laying pipe and concrete, painting; assists with departmental record keeping;
- Performs other related duties as required.
Requirements
Knowledge, abilities and skills include:
- Knowledge of pumps, motors, and electrical control systems; knowledge of preventive maintenance procedures on pumps and motors
- Ability to learn the procedures, functions, and servicing requirements of lift station operators
- Ability to work on-call, if required, including nights, weekends and holidays
- Ability to remain at a city work shelter, before, during, and after a hurricane or other storm or disaster
- Ability to work in close quarters and at great heights
- Ability to drive a vehicle
- Skill in mechanical repair
Minimum qualifications include:
- High School Diploma or recognized equivalent
- Class C Wastewater Collection Certification or ability to obtain within the first six (6) months of hire date
- Supplemented by two (2) years of mechanical experience required
- Valid Florida Class B Commercial Driver's License with an acceptable driving record is required
- Equivalent training or experience may be considered
Working hours are Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Physical demands include:
- This is moderately heavy work most of the working time
- Requires frequent walking and standing for long periods; frequent climbing, bending, lifting 50+ pounds, carrying/pushing/pulling 50+ pounds; stooping, reaching; good finger/hand dexterity and hand/eye coordination; good eyesight; hearing and speech or vocal communication (for safety); working in adverse environmental conditions for long periods of time; regular driving and operation of assigned equipment
Salary information is $19.05 per hour ($39,624.64 per year); excellent benefits (Note: See Benefits Tab for more information). Applicants should expect a starting salary of $19.05 per hour. Only applicants with the most job-related qualifications will be selected for interview and further consideration. Additional consideration may be given to applicants with more extensive education, training, or experience. Following a thorough background investigation, including a criminal history and driver's license check, the candidate will be given a conditional offer of employment. The final candidate will be required to pass a drug test and medical exam.
