What is a weekend host?

Weekend Hosts are individuals employed primarily to greet, assist, and manage guests during weekends at venues such as restaurants, hotels, event spaces, or entertainment centers. Their responsibilities often include welcoming guests, coordinating seating arrangements, answering questions, and ensuring a positive visitor experience. Weekend Hosts play a key role in managing busy periods, handling reservations, and addressing guest concerns efficiently. The role requires strong communication and organizational skills, along with a friendly and professional demeanor. Weekend Hosts often work part-time and may have flexible hours specifically on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.

What skills and qualifications are needed to be a weekend host?

To thrive as a Weekend Host, you need strong interpersonal skills, organizational abilities, and experience in hospitality or customer service, often supported by a high school diploma. Familiarity with reservation systems, point-of-sale (POS) software, and basic office tools is typically required. Outstanding communication, a welcoming demeanor, and the ability to remain calm under pressure help you excel in guest-facing situations. These skills ensure a positive guest experience and efficient operations during busy weekend shifts.

What are common challenges faced by weekend hosts and how can they be addressed?

Weekend Hosts often navigate a fast-paced environment, especially during peak hours when guest volume is highest. Balancing multiple responsibilities—such as greeting guests, managing reservations, and coordinating with kitchen and service staff—can be demanding. Effective communication and strong organizational skills are key to ensuring smooth operations and a positive guest experience. Proactively anticipating guest needs and staying flexible helps handle unexpected situations, such as last-minute changes or high customer influx. Regular team check-ins and clear protocols also support a collaborative and efficient work environment.

Do weekend hosts make a lot of money?

Weekend hosts typically earn hourly wages that vary depending on the industry, location, and experience. In general, they earn less than full-time weekday hosts, with pay often ranging from minimum wage to moderate hourly rates, and some positions may include tips or bonuses. Overall, weekend hosting is usually considered an entry-level or part-time role with modest pay.

How to get hired as a weekend host?

To get hired as a weekend host, candidates should have strong communication skills, a friendly demeanor, and experience in customer service or hospitality. Applying through company websites or job boards, preparing a tailored resume, and demonstrating availability for weekend shifts are key steps in the process.

Job description

Description:

Heirloom Restaurant Group is a restaurant brand management company with more than 10 brands and continually growing. We are a collection of individuals who care and work together each day to create meaningful experiences. https://www.heirloomgroup.com

We do not believe it is unusual to have life changing experiences while breaking bread with others and we have made it our mission to see that it happens much more regularly. We recognize we come from our local community and thus are ultimately responsible to our friends, families, neighbors and associates. We take this seriously. We focus our time and energy on finding those who share our values and creating partnerships that are mutually beneficial. Ours is not the job to fiddle with the bounty that our farmers and producers bring to us but rather to allow its inherent beauty to shine through. Doing so in spaces that are comfortable and nurturing sets the stage for those meaningful experiences to happen. We cook food, we run restaurants and we love what we do.

Responsibilities:

Guest Assistance:

  • Welcome guests with a warm and friendly demeanor as they enter the restaurant.
  • Provide a positive first impression and set the tone for the overall dining experience.
  • Assist guests with inquiries, provide information about the menu, specials, and restaurant policies.
  • Address customer concerns and resolve issues promptly.
  • Be attentive to the needs of guests, including any special requests or accommodations.
  • Handle seating for large parties and special events with care and efficiency.

Reservation Management:

  • Manage restaurant reservations, including confirming, modifying, or canceling bookings.
  • Maintain an organized reservation system and communicate reservation status to the serving staff.
  • Assess the dining room layout and manage efficient seating assignments to optimize table turnover.
  • Consider server sections and balance workload among the serving staff.

Waiting Area Management:

  • Keep the waiting area clean, organized, and visually appealing.
  • Provide waiting guests with accurate wait time estimates and, if necessary, offer alternatives such as seating at the bar.
  • Ensure that the host/hostess stand and surrounding areas are neat, organized, and well-maintained.
  • Pay attention to the overall cleanliness and appearance of the dining area.

Communication Liaison:

  • Maintain effective communication with the kitchen, serving staff, and management to ensure smooth dining room operations.
  • Relay special requests, dietary restrictions, or other pertinent information to the serving team.
  • Collaborate with servers to coordinate the timing of reservations and walk-in guests.
  • Facilitate effective communication between the front and back of the house.

Requirements:
  • Previous experience as a host/hostess or in customer service is beneficial.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Professional and positive attitude.
  • Familiarity with reservation systems and basic computer skills.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Benefits:

  • Free Food!
  • Insurance Reimbursement Plans for FT employees
