PT HOMEWORK HELP amp; ENRICHMENT ASSISTANT - COVEDALE BRANCH

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Homework Help amp; Enrichment Assistant provides homework help and enrichment support through the Homework Help Program to youth customers and engages youth in a variety of STEAM [Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math] and enrichment activities during non-academic periods to help prevent academic loss.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Answers appropriate questions related to homework assignments for grades K-8.
  • Reviews homework instructions with students to assist in understanding of what is being asked of them.
  • Proofreads homework and assignments, looking for corrections and ways for students to improve their assignments.
  • Connects students with library resources.
  • Teaches and reinforces basic study skills.
  • Encourages students to participate in enrichment activities during homework downtime.
  • Engages youth in a variety of STEAM and other enrichment activities during non-academic periods.
  • Reports participation statistics to managers.
  • Supports and advances the Library’s mission of connecting people with the world of ideas and information.
  • Embraces and embodies the Library’s core beliefs, strategic priorities and pillars of excellence.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion efforts of all colleagues and customers regardless of age, cultural background, ability, ethnicity, family status, gender identity, immigration status, national origin, race, religion, sex, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, and veteran status.
  • Complies with Cincinnati amp; Hamilton County Public Library's workplace expectations, attendance and punctuality, drug-free workplace, harassment in the workplace, and other employment-related policies and procedures; and all other rules, guidelines, requirements, standards, and practices that are applicable to the position.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  • Skill in customer service.
  • Ability to teach and tutor youth customers and explain English, Math, and other subject matter concepts and information.
  • Ability to work independently and with coworkers in a wide variety of situations with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to use all technology applicable to the essential functions of the job and commonly used by the Library.
  • Lifting objects up to 50 pounds and carrying them short distances [50 feet or less] is required. Pushing carts of library materials up to 150 pounds may be required.
  • Working irregular hours, including evenings and weekends, is required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
  • Certifications or licensure: None.
  • Years of relevant experience: None.
  • Years of experience supervising: None.
  • Must be at least 16 years of age.
  • Current high school students must provide a transcript to demonstrate proficiency in math and language arts.
HOURS:
12 hours per week, Monday-Thursday, 3:00-6:00 p.m.
SALARY:
$17.48
