What are some common challenges faced by Weekend Home Inspectors, and how can they be managed?

Weekend Home Inspectors often face tight schedules and the need to efficiently coordinate multiple appointments in a single day, especially during peak home-buying seasons. Additionally, they must balance thoroughness with time constraints and sometimes deal with clients who are only available on weekends, making communication and flexibility key skills. To manage these challenges, it’s important to develop strong organizational habits, use inspection software to streamline reporting, and maintain clear, proactive communication with clients and real estate agents. Networking with other inspectors and attending industry workshops can also help you stay updated on best practices and local regulations.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Weekend Home Inspector, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Weekend Home Inspector, you need a solid understanding of residential construction, building codes, and property assessment, typically supported by a home inspection certification or relevant licensure. Familiarity with inspection reporting software, digital cameras, and moisture meters is commonly required. Attention to detail, strong communication skills, and reliability help inspectors deliver clear findings and build trust with clients. These skills ensure accurate assessments, regulatory compliance, and positive client experiences during time-sensitive weekend appointments.

Is a home inspector a good side hustle?

A home inspector can be a suitable side hustle for individuals with attention to detail, good communication skills, and some knowledge of building systems. It often requires certification and can offer flexible scheduling, making it feasible to work part-time alongside other commitments.

Is there a big demand for home inspectors?

What are weekend home inspectors?

Weekend home inspectors are professionals who assess the condition of residential properties, typically working on Saturdays and Sundays to accommodate clients who are only available outside of regular business hours. They examine various aspects of a home, including the structure, plumbing, electrical systems, roofing, and more, to identify any issues or needed repairs. Their inspections result in detailed reports that help homebuyers, sellers, or homeowners understand the property's condition before making important decisions. Working weekends allows these inspectors to provide flexible scheduling and meet the needs of busy clients.

Job description

Mold/IAQ Inspector - Technical Sales
Green Home Solutions of the Twin Cities | Blaine, MN Full-Time | Base + Uncapped Commission | $20-$25/hour base, DOE, plus commission

Green Home Solutions is the only national company built specifically around indoor air quality and mold remediation, locally owned and operated in the Twin Cities. We've also expanded into full water and fire restoration, giving you a broader range of work and a wider set of skills to build than a typical mold-only inspector role. We use proprietary, EPA Safer Choice certified products you won't find anywhere else, backed by industry-leading training most companies can't match. We're looking for an experienced Inspector who's ready to combine technical assessment skills with a consultative sales approach and get paid well for it.
This is a technical sales role. You'll inspect homes, diagnose mold and air quality issues, explain your findings to homeowners, and close the job. If you have a background in restoration (fire, water, mold, or related fields), home inspection, or IAQ, and you'd rather be building client relationships than sitting behind a desk, this is your next move.

Why You'll Want This Job
  1. Work for the only national company solely focused on indoor air quality and mold. Not a side offering buried in a bigger restoration business
  2. Full water and fire restoration capabilities in-house, giving you broader project variety and growth opportunities
  3. Access to proprietary products and equipment you won't find at competitors
  4. Industry-leading, hands-on training that sets you up to be the expert in your market
  5. Base pay plus uncapped commission. Top performers earn significantly more than a typical inspector salary
  6. 401(k) with 4% company match
  7. Paid holidays and sick leave
  8. No weekends, no evenings. A real schedule
  9. Mileage reimbursement for company travel
  10. A clear path to increase your earnings if you're already an experienced inspector
  11. Willing to train the right candidate. We provide structured training resources and hands-on/OJT support to get you up to speed

What You'll Do
  1. Conduct home inspections for mold and indoor air quality issues
  2. Evaluate mold investigations and identify potential risks
  3. Write clear, professional inspection reports that explain findings and next steps
  4. Build job quotes and walk clients through recommended solutions
  5. Manage the full sales cycle, from initial client conversation to closed job, and meet assigned sales targets
  6. Maintain accurate records in our CRM
  7. Deliver a client experience that earns trust and repeat referrals

What You Bring
  1. 2+ years performing home inspections, mold inspections, or fire/water/restoration inspections. Will train the right candidate with strong related experience
  2. Experience with fire, water, or other restoration inspections is highly valued
  3. CRIE certification preferred; other IAQ certifications considered
  4. Strong report writing and data interpretation skills
  5. Working knowledge of construction and building science
  6. Proven ability to manage a sales pipeline: following up promptly, asking the right questions, and handling objections professionally
  7. Excellent interpersonal skills. You build rapport easily with clients and teammates alike
  8. Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize a variable daily schedule
  9. A valid driver's license and clean driving record
  10. Ability to pass a criminal background check
  11. Ability to lift 50 lbs, with or without reasonable accommodation
  12. Professional appearance and a positive, self-motivated attitude

Green Home Solutions of the Twin Cities is an Equal Opportunity Employer. We consider all qualified applicants without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, or any other protected status.
