Job description

Title : Data Center Cable Management Technician

Location : Nashville, TN(Onsite)

Visa :- USC or GC only


Travel: Approximately 35% (Cincinnati Data Center and Distribution Centers across the U.S.)

Time: 8:00 am to 4:00 pm on site / some nights and weekends will be required - no overtime. 40 hour work weeks.

Has to be able to lift 50 pounds

Position Summary

We are seeking a hands-on Data Center Cable Management Technician to support our growing infrastructure across multiple manufacturing and distribution facilities. This position will focus on improving cable management, documenting infrastructure, cleaning up data center environments, and supporting network and server deployments. The ideal candidate enjoys physical, detail-oriented work and takes pride in creating organized, efficient, and well-documented IT environments.

This is a six-month contract with the opportunity to transition into a full-time role based on performance and business needs.

Responsibilities

  • Organize, label, route, and secure copper and fiber cabling in enterprise data centers and IDF/MDF closets.
  • Perform complete cable remediation projects, including removing abandoned cabling and improving airflow.
  • Install cable management systems including ladder racks, vertical/horizontal managers, Velcro, patch panels, and rack accessories.
  • Patch and test Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6A, and fiber optic connections.
  • Install and rack servers, switches, firewalls, UPS equipment, and other infrastructure hardware.
  • Assist with equipment moves, adds, and changes (MAC work).
  • Document rack layouts, cable paths, port assignments, and asset inventory.
  • Maintain accurate labeling following company standards.
  • Assist with network and server deployments during maintenance windows.
  • Support data center cleanliness and organization initiatives.
  • Coordinate with internal IT teams, vendors, and contractors during projects.
  • Follow all safety, security, and change management procedures.

Travel Requirements

  • Approximately 35% travel throughout the United States.
  • Primary travel will include our Cincinnati Data Center and multiple Distribution Centers nationwide.
  • Travel typically consists of 2–5 day trips depending on project schedules.

Required Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in enterprise data centers or structured cabling.
  • Experience with:
  • Copper and fiber cabling
  • Patch panels and cable management
  • Rack and stack activities
  • Server and network hardware installation
  • Ability to read rack elevations and network diagrams.
  • Experience using cable certification or testing tools is preferred.
  • Strong documentation and organizational skills.
  • Comfortable lifting up to 50 pounds and working in data center environments.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting enterprise data centers with 100+ racks.
  • Knowledge of:
  • Cisco networking
  • Juniper or Mist
  • Fortinet
  • VMware
  • Windows Server environments
  • Familiarity with IT asset management systems.
  • BICSI, CompTIA Network+, or equivalent certifications are a plus.

What Success Looks Like

Within the first six months, this individual will:

  • Improve cable organization and labeling standards across multiple facilities.
  • Reduce cable congestion and improve airflow in data centers.
  • Complete infrastructure documentation for racks and cabling.
  • Support hardware installations and data center expansion projects.
  • Help establish consistent cable management standards across all U.S. locations.
