Job description

The Grocery Utility Clerk is responsible to ensure customer service is provided through maintaining a safe and efficient operation while adhering to Company policies, procedures and standards. The Grocery Clerk position reports directly to the Grocery Supervisor/Grocery Manager, and the main responsibilities include;

  • Provides customer service and maintains positive customer relations through the proper handling of customer questions, comments, requests and complaints.  Effectively works in a diverse team environment in a proficient and friendly manner. 
  • Performs all aspects of the Grocery Utility functions including but not limited to stocking, building displays and facing an efficient and organized manner. Ensures display presentation and stock levels are maintained in all areas including but not limited to dairy, freezer, grocery and warehouse.
  • Handles merchandise ensuring quality, minimizing damages and markdowns. Provides substitutions and ensures price integrity including price changes. 
  • Performs general cleanup duties such as cleaning spills and display fixtures to ensure neat and organized department.  Responsible for keeping the sales floor and back stock area clean from cardboard and debris, as well as disposal of garbage. 
  • Performs duties following established Occupational Health & Safety, Food Safety, and Environmental regulations and policies to ensure the health and safety of all staff and customers.
  • Ensures the proper care, use and maintenance of equipment and tools.  Reports repair requirements to the Grocery Supervisor, Manager or Duty Manager.
  • Responsible for all aspects of ordering merchandise and supplies.
  • Responsible for all aspects of receiving including reviewing / verifying invoices, returns, transfers, claims and proper storage of products.
  • Assists in organizing and conducting inventory.
  • Assumes additional related responsibilities including assisting in other departments as required and training others to do the Grocery Utility Clerk job
