Job description

Guard (Security)

The purpose of this position is to monitor and assist with the security and protection of university buildings and properties. To control the access of personnel, report security violations, fire, and other safety hazards at the UT Marine Science Institute in Port Aransas, Texas.

Emergency Response:
  • Reporting and responding to emergencies independently or in a team as directed
Building Monitoring:
  • Conducting vehicle and foot patrols, screening visitors
  • Controlling access to restricted areas
  • Building assessment checkpoint patrols, Guard tour patrols within scope of SOPs
  • Opening and securing doors, gates, and buildings
  • Monitoring closed-circuit television (CCTV) equipment intermittently
  • Operating vehicle and handheld radios
  • Ability to complete official and unofficial reports
Visitor Management:
  • Managing vehicle and pedestrian traffic through checkpoints, parking areas, and visitor use facilities
  • Assisting with VIP/dignitary visits and special events
  • Providing professional customer service to employees and visitors
Required Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 2 years of experience in a similar field
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Some College hours towards a Criminal Justice degree
  • Degree in Criminal Justice
  • 4 years of experience
Driving Required:

This job requires a class "C" operator's driver's license. The applicant selected must provide a current three year driving record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, a Texas driver's license must be obtained within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident. Employees who are required to have a CDL are subject to drug and alcohol testing (pre-employment, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, random, return-to-duty, and follow-up drug and alcohol testing).
