Hours per week: 37.5
Paid leave: 43 days vacation per year
Position End Date: June 30, 2027
Deadline to apply: 4:00PM, on August 18, 2026

The Geomatics Engineering Technology program at SAIT provides learners with practical skills and a broad theoretical foundation in land surveying, geographic information systems (GIS), global navigation satellite systems (GNSS), remote sensing, photogrammetry, cartography, geodesy, digital mapping, and related geomatics applications. Through a combination of classroom instruction, laboratories, field exercises, technical projects, and applied learning opportunities, students develop the skills required to contribute to a diverse and evolving profession.

With a technical focus, the program integrates field and office practices, spatial data acquisition and analysis, project planning, technical communication, and professional problem-solving. Learners engage with industry-standard technologies, software, equipment, and workflows while developing the technical, analytical, and professional competencies expected of geomatics technologists.

Instruction is delivered through a collaborative teaching model that blends complementary instructional perspectives and technical expertise. This approach integrates course objectives and learning outcomes across subjects while reflecting the interdisciplinary nature of geomatics practice. Through collaboration with colleagues across the program, instructors contribute to a learning environment that supports student success, professional growth, and critical thinking.

A candidate's industry experience and expertise must be complemented by a commitment to developing their educational practice and an interest in teaching diverse student populations. SAIT values instructors who bring current industry knowledge into the classroom while embracing the lifelong learning expected of an educator. Faculty members typically join the program with expertise in specific areas of geomatics practice and contribute that knowledge to a collaborative instructional team. As part of that commitment, instructors are expected to continually develop their teaching practice and broaden their ability to support student learning across the curriculum. This culture of growth and flexibility helps ensure students receive excellent instruction while aligning with SAIT's purpose - to prepare learners for successful careers and lives.

Note: SAIT, as a post-secondary institution, serves a diverse student population. Therefore, instructional duties may occasionally be required during early mornings, evenings, and weekends. If selected, specific scheduling arrangements will be discussed between you and the leader.
How you'll contribute
  • Preparation of lesson plans and learning activities in alignment with the program's learner-centred applied learning model
  • Provide insight into contemporary geomatics practice, technologies, standards, and professional expectations
  • Curation of reference materials and learning resources
  • Assessment of students through regular formative feedback and timely summative assessment
  • Regular curriculum review and maintenance
  • Engagement in professional development activities to maintain expertise in 1) field of practice, 2) subjects taught, and 3) the field of teaching and learning
  • Regular attendance and participation in faculty meetings, school and institutional addresses
  • Report to and collaborate with the program Academic Chair
  • Explore interdisciplinary learning opportunities
  • Support the development of industry partnerships and work-integrated learning opportunities for students
Candidates are encouraged to review the SAFA Collective Agreement, Faculty Workload Guidelines, and Hybrid Work Guidelines for complete details.
What you bring
  • Diploma or degree in Geomatics Engineering Technology, Geomatics Engineering, Surveying, Geographic Information Systems, Remote Sensing, or a related discipline
  • Relevant geomatics industry experience
  • Demonstrated expertise in one or more areas of geomatics practice
  • An iterative mindset and technical orientation
  • Strong interpersonal, collaboration, and communication skills
  • A passion for teaching and the professional development journey required
  • A commitment to lifelong learning, critical thinking, innovation, and community building
  • A genuine desire to help people learn and develop
  • Registration as an Alberta Land Surveyor (A.L.S.) and/or designation as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) is considered an asset
We sincerely thank all applicants for their interest in this opportunity. We understand how important communication is, and we are committed to following up with every candidate. Please know that each application is thoughtfully reviewed, and you will hear from us either way.
