Job description

Controls & Automation Engineer(PLC/HMI) - Junior, Mid, & Senior Openings

$75,000 – $110,000 Base Salary • Greater Milwaukee Area • First Shift • High-Impact Profit Sharing

EXPERIENCE LAYERS: 2+ Years of Controls Design Depth (Levels Calibrated Across Junior, Mid, and Senior Talents)

CORE LOGIC: Ground-Up PLC/HMI Development Utilizing Rockwell & Allen-Bradley Platforms (Studio 5000 / RSLogix)

TRAVEL & ROAD BALANCE: 25% to 50% Domestic Travel with Guaranteed Compensatory Time Off for Weekend Deployments

LOCATION POLICY: 100% On-Site Laboratory & Field Commissioning (Dynamic, Custom Systems Engineering Hub)

If you are a controls engineer who is tired of being stuck in a repetitive plant maintenance loop or siloed into deploying the exact same corporate machine template for the thousandth time, this is your professional sanctuary. Our client is a premier, rapid-growth automation integration firm that has successfully doubled its revenue and engineering footprint year-over-year. Their operational philosophy is strictly anti-monotony: every single assignment secured is a custom, blank-screen architectural solution. You will actively jump across large-scale software integrations, high-speed conveyor sorting networks, robotic welding cells, and ultra-precise servo-driven motion systems.

This organization protects its engineering talent aggressively. They recognize that field commissioning takes true dedication, which is why they have implemented a strict, non-negotiable travel-balancing policy: if a customer startup forces you to travel over a weekend, you are instantly awarded guaranteed comp days to ensure you come back home to a relaxing four-day weekend. With no exceptions and zero corporate guilt, you will take true project ownership, watch your code command massive physical machines, and enjoy a collaborative team environment backed by annual holiday bonuses and historically high profit-sharing payouts.

What You Will Be Doing
  • Develop robust PLC programs and intuitive HMI interfaces completely from scratch for complex, custom automation machinery, robotic cells, and specialized material handling systems.
  • Engineer advanced operator interfaces using modern visualization platforms, or incorporate high-level enterprise software and database integrations where required.
  • Review and perfect detailed electrical schematics in CAD to verify panel layouts align with Bill of Materials (BOM) specifications and international safety regulations.
  • Implement and configure industrial networks and safety architectures, including EtherNet/IP protocols, multi-axis servo motion systems, and advanced machine vision.
  • Serve as the primary technical authority during on-site customer startups, supervising physical installations and executing final commissioning sequences.
What We Are Looking For
  • Ground-up controls depth featuring 2 or more years of verifiable professional experience designing and programming control systems. Must have direct experience writing logic from scratch using Allen-Bradley platforms, not just tweaking pre-existing code blocks.
  • Technical education foundation with an Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation Technology, Computer Science, or a closely related engineering field.
  • Rock-solid professional stability showing a reliable career track record with steady tenure and commitment with prior employers.
  • Field flexibility with the willingness and capability to travel domestically between 25% and 50% to champion custom integration rollouts at diverse client sites.
  • Local proximity and permanent residency established within a comfortable commuting distance of the Greater Milwaukee / Washington County corridor to support active laboratory collaboration.
Preferred Technical Assets (Not Required)
  • Hands-on configuration of advanced multi-axis servo motion systems or industrial vision platforms.
  • High-level language coding proficiency (C#, VB.NET) or SQL relational database programming depth.
  • Direct programming, path teaching, or integration experience with industrial robotic arms.
