Children's Healthcare of Atlanta (Children's), located in Atlanta, Georgia, has an immediate opening for a Hematopathologist physician, to join its group of 20 Pathologists and PhD clinical laboratory scientists. Our current team includes three full-time hematopathologists who also serve in additional roles, such as director of flow cytometry, director of clinical pathology, and director of immunology. This position carries with it an adjunct appointment in the Department of Pathology at Emory University School of Medicine, with responsibilities based solely at Children's. The role includes a mix of direct clinical time on service and designated non-service time which may be utilized according to expertise and other organizational priorities.
Children's is a dynamic, growing environment with marked expansion of the hematology/oncology division in the past few years, including growth in bone marrow transplantation. Yearly, the hematopathology service sees over 800 leukemia/lymphoma flow cytometry panels, 300 minimal residual disease flow cytometric panels, 650 bone marrow examinations, and numerous body fluids and peripheral smears. Lymph node examination is an additional duty, as well as interpretation of hemoglobin electrophoresis and platelet aggregation studies. Board certification or eligibility in molecular genetic pathology, informatics, or other areas such as pediatric pathology are desired but not essential, as there are opportunities in those areas as well. Overnight and weekend call is shared equally with the group of hematopathologists. Research opportunities are ample. Flexibility, good interpersonal skills, and the ability to work with others is required.
