Position: IT Software Engineer 4 Java/AWS
Work Location: Chicago, IL Hybrid

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced IT Software Engineer / Senior Java AWS Developer with 8+ years of software development experience and strong hands-on expertise in Java, AWS, Microservices, REST APIs, databases, and CI/CD.

The ideal candidate will design, develop, test, deploy, and support scalable enterprise applications in an Agile/Scrum environment. The role requires extensive Java development experience along with at least 3 years of hands-on AWS cloud development.

Must-Have Skills
  • 8+ years of overall software development experience

  • 8+ years of Java application development

  • 3+ years of hands-on AWS development

  • Strong experience with AWS CloudFormation, ECS, Lambda, Fargate, and Amazon Elasticsearch/OpenSearch

  • Strong understanding of AWS IAM roles and policies

  • Experience with ADO (Azure DevOps) and Jenkins

  • Strong experience with CI/CD pipelines

  • Experience with relational and NoSQL databases

  • Strong knowledge of RESTful APIs and Microservices

  • Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments

  • Experience with Generative AI for software development

  • Strong computer science fundamentals, including data structures and algorithms


Technical Skills
  • Languages: Java

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, test, debug, deploy, and maintain highly scalable enterprise software applications

  • Develop complex applications and services using Java and AWS

  • Design and maintain cloud solutions using AWS ECS, Lambda, Fargate, CloudFormation, and IAM

  • Develop scalable Microservices and RESTful APIs

  • Build applications using relational and NoSQL databases

  • Design and support batch and streaming solutions using SQS, SNS, and Kinesis

  • Develop and maintain automated CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins and Azure DevOps

  • Perform coding, integration, testing, debugging, deployment, and production support

  • Participate in PR/code reviews and ensure adherence to engineering standards

  • Perform integrated testing and support customer acceptance testing

  • Troubleshoot complex application, cloud, database, and integration issues

  • Implement appropriate application and information-security controls

  • Develop technical documentation and support training/usability activities

  • Provide technical leadership and guidance to other team members

  • Participate actively in all Agile/Scrum ceremonies, including daily stand-ups, sprint planning, grooming, retrospectives, and demos

  • Collaborate closely with Scrum team members and other engineering teams

  • Support complex production issues, including occasional off-shift/weekend support when required


Education & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field

  • 8+ years of software development experience

  • 8+ years of Java development experience

  • Candidates with a Master's degree in Computer Science or a related field may qualify with 6+ years of relevant Java/software development experience

  • Minimum 3+ years of AWS/cloud development experience
