RESPIRATORY THERAPIST

Aspirus Rhinelander Hospital, Rhinelander, WI

Full Time (.9 FTE, 72 hours every pay period)

WEEKEND ONLY NIGHTS, 12-hour shifts

Job Description:

The Respiratory Care Practitioner provides respiratory and cardiopulmonary monitoring, diagnostics, and therapy services under medical direction to patients in a variety of care environments. Assists in orientation training of hospital staff, students and the public regarding respiratory disease and care. Provides respiratory care to patients of all ages, including neonates, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients. Interprets patient information and understands treatment needs depending on the age of patients under care. Whenever applicable, demonstrates understanding of the needs of specific age groups in terms of their physical and motor development, psychosocial development, and intellectual/language development.

Experience/Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of respiratory care standards and protocols is normally acquired through graduation from an AMA approved school of Respiratory Care with an associate degree.
  • A bachelor's degree in respiratory care or Biological Sciences is beneficial.
  • One year of critical care experience and experience in pulmonary function or cardiopulmonary lab beneficial.
  • An active Wisconsin Respiratory Care Practitioner license required.
  • Registered RRT by the National Board of Respiratory Care, or registry eligible and obtained within one year of hire.
  • Current BLS certification or obtained within 90 days of hire - All clinical personnel in identified job codes are required to maintain Basic Life Support (BLS) training through independent study, online manikin, and knowledge testing. An acceptable training program is the Basic Life Support (BLS) Health Care Provider course from the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross Professional Rescuer Program with AED. (See Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Training Policy).
  • Neo-natal Resuscitation Program certification at time of hire or obtained within 6 months of employment for all Therapists assigned to NICU beneficial.
  • Active membership in the American Association for Respiratory Care, experience with electrocardiography, arterial monitoring, and Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) beneficial.
  • ACLS beneficial. Acceptable ce rtification is the American Heart Association Advanced Cardiac Life Support Provider Course or the American Heart Association Pediatric Advanced Life Support Provider Course including a hands-on skills practice session with an AHA ACLS or PALS instructor or by using a voice assisted manikin (VAM) system.
