Job Purpose:
Reporting to the Associate Chief Quality and Patient Safety Officer, the Senior Director of Risk Management and Patient Safety serves as a strategic leader for the enterprise-wide Risk Management and Patient Safety program. This role is pivotal in cultivating a culture of safety across Cambridge Health Alliance (CHA), ensuring the organization remains at the leading edge of improving health outcomes, increasing patient safety, and reducing preventable errors in health care processes. The Senior Director provides executive oversight of the risk and patient safety staff, manages departmental budgets, and acts as a key liaison to executive leadership, physician leaders, and external partners-including CRICO regarding malpractice claims and regulatory agencies for compliance and reporting. Beyond daily operations, this position drives institutional capacity in improvement science, proactively identifies system-wide risks, and transforms safety data into actionable insights, ensuring that high-reliability behaviors are embedded into the fabric of care delivery to protect both patients and staff.
Qualifications:
  • Registered Nurse (RN) required; Juris Doctor (JD) preferred.
  • Certified Professional in Healthcare Risk Management (CPHRM) or Certified Professional in Patient Safety (CPPS) preferred.
  • Experience 5+ years of relevant and progressive experience in risk management, patient safety, and claims management.
  • Demonstrated experience leading multifaceted risk and patient safety initiatives, collaborating with senior leadership, and managing complex stakeholder environments. Knowledge,
  • Ability to manage highly sensitive and confidential situations with tact, professionalism, and discretion.
  • Sufficient clinical expertise to support the analysis of adverse events and engage effectively with providers on matters requiring clinical peer review.
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills; ability to interact effectively with a wide variety of people.
  • Ability to perform effectively in stressful situations and apply critical thinking to complex scenarios.
  • Self-directed, motivated, and highly organized with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks based on organizational needs.
  • Proficient in collecting, organizing, and evaluating data for leadership presentations.
  • Solid understanding of healthcare industry operations and care delivery systems.
  • Strong computer skills; ability to quickly learn new software applications.
