We are seeking an individual who will serve as the SOHO Science Operations Coordinator, supporting the Solar and Heliospheric Observatory (SOHO) Experimenter's Operation Facility (EOF) on-site at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) in Greenbelt, MD.
Duties include:
  • Supporting instrument science planning and commanding
  • Monitoring instrument health and safety
  • Overseeing data production processing
  • Providing general backup support to the instrument team.

The position is 30 hours per week, fully on-site, and is ideally suited for a college undergraduate who is interested in, and able to take on the responsibilities required to obtain, hands-on experience supporting an operating NASA space mission.
We are seeking a candidate who is a fast learner, a problem-solver, and a reliable team-player who can also be trusted to work independently. Previous experience working in a spacecraft operations environment is a strong plus.
Since this position involves working in an operational environment (24 x 7 x 365), it requires occasional after hours (weekends/evenings) on call duty to support operations. Therefore, the candidate is required to reside within the Washington, DC/Baltimore metro area, with ready access to car transport, within a commuting distance of 30 minutes or less.
Required Experience:
  • High School Diploma.
  • At least one year of experience using Mac OS and/or Linux computer systems.
  • Proven work ethic; demonstrated reliability and responsibility.
  • Capable of remaining calm under pressure.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills, including the ability to confidently determine priorities.
  • Strong time management skills.
  • Ability to precisely follow detailed instructions and successfully complete tasks.
  • Capable of developing meticulous, error-free, reports.
  • US Citizenship or Permanent Residency (LPR) required, with US residency for the past 3 consecutive years.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Tier 1 Investigation through NASA.

Desired Experience:
  • Experience working in a spacecraft operations environment.
  • Ability to successfully perform assigned duties in a mistake-free environment.
  • Experience working on a project with a defined schedule and tight timelines.
