Embedded Software Engineer: The Embedded software engineer designs and implements infrastructure and applications for deploying embedded Linux and supporting software that operate on the most advanced products at Spectrum Control. The Embedded software engineer also develops the functional requirements and testing methodologies to verify system operation.

COMPENSATION RANGE: The expected compensation range for this position is $135,000 - $165,000.00 annually.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Build and deploy the Linux Operating system using the Yocto Build Flow.
  • Maintain software revisions and deployment using tools including GIT and Docker.
  • Develop high-quality embedded application software in C/C++ for ARM-based processors.
  • Develop computer networking software infrastructure.
  • Develop automated test software in C# to control RF test instruments (signal generators, spectrum/network analyzers, power meters) and collect measurement data.
  • Use Artificial Intelligence tools to enhance productivity and problem solve.
  • Derive requirements and verification methods for embedded systems.
  • Produce detailed documentation of system functionality.
  • Provide internal and external customer support as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education: Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Engineering.
  • Experience Years: 5+ years of embedded software development.
  • Must have expert-level knowledge of the Linux operating system and building embedded Linux systems with Yocto, including custom layers and recipes, BSP integration, kernel configuration, device trees, and U-Boot.
  • Must have strong knowledge of computer networking protocols and tools, and computer architecture.
  • Must have strong C/C++ skills developing embedded software for ARM-based processors, including cross-compilation toolchains, hardware interfaces (SPI, I2C, UART), and debugging with JTAG/GDB.
  • Must have strong scripting skills in Python and Bash for build automation and test tooling.
  • Experience building embedded Linux for Altera or AMD FPGA SoCs preferred.
  • Experience with C#/.NET for test applications preferred.
  • Experience developing instrument control and test automation software using SCPI over VISA (GPIB, LXI/Ethernet, USBTMC) preferred.
  • Knowledge of embedded security practices such as secure boot, encrypted filesystems, and signed software updates preferred.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
