Company Description
Alliance Finishing & Manufacturing (http://www.alliance-finishing.com/) is Ventura County's leader in providing electroplating and engineering services that help military, aerospace and commercial component manufacturers all over the world measurably improve metallic part mechanical properties, enhance corrosion resistance, and improve product aesthetics. We are a small company of about 30 employees and have been in business for over 25 years. We recently began plating composite production parts using our patented plating on plastic "GreenPOP" technology (https://www.alliance-finishing.com/plating-on-plastics).
Job Description
We are looking to hire a Process Development Engineer who will be responsible for the exciting and challenging opportunity to scale up our new plating on plastic production line to support our military and high-end commercial composite plastics customers. This role will focus on process scale-up, optimization and improvement as well as help lead the team in charge of immediately rolling out this production line. This role requires a balanced and in-depth understanding of both the plating production process and chemistry required to achieve a highly stable and predictive process to large volume plastic plated components.
Personality-wise, this role requires someone who is hands-on as much of this job will be spent out in the plant and interfacing with operators and other plant personnel. A successful candidate will be a versatile, independent, and non traditional thinker who is able to adapt to quickly changing priorities. The Process Development Engineer is an important partner and advisor to the business who reports directly to the President of Alliance Finishing & Manufacturing.
Responsibilities:
  • Partner with company leadership to design, optimize, troubleshoot, and establish overall process activities to scale our proprietary chemical plating on plastic process and ensure that the process consistently produces the highest quality product yields in a production environment.
  • Analyze data from production and engineering process runs, qualifying changes or additions to process flows in order to build the optimal plating on plastics production line.
  • Leadership and design of engineering experiments to troubleshoot new composite plating techniques and or solve plating complications and drive process performance improvements including: optimization, cost reduction, training and coaching of plating personnel.
  • Manage the activities of one or more chemical platers, inspectors working on the production line.
  • Establish process controls to maintain robust process capabilities.
  • Solid leadership of cross-functional projects will be required to successfully manage complex production process and/or integration challenges.

Qualifications
  • Must have a Bachelor's degree or higher in Electrochemical, Chemical Engineering, or Materials Science.
  • Preferable 5 years of related experience as a Process Manufacturing or Process Development Engineer in a chemical manufacturing, or electroplating production environment. Recent high calibre graduates with strong technical depth will be considered as Company leadership is willing to train candidate with right combination of skills.
  • Candidate must have experience setting up and sustaining electrochemistry equipment, processes, and various metrology methods associated with the control and monitor of such processes.
  • Hands-on experience with process, chemistry, and chemical development required for advanced electrochemical processes.
  • Familiarity with plating on military and high-end commercial parts and or ABS-PC plastics.
  • Ability to autonomously drive and prioritize multiple projects with limited direction.
  • Proven track-record of developing and deploying creative and practical process solutions for high-volume manufacturing.
  • Willingness to take responsibility and ownership to aggressively focus on problems either individually or part of a larger team.
  • Proven ability to analyze and make meaningful inferences from sometimes incomplete data.
  • Comfort working with a wide variety of different functions including R&D, Process Integration, and Operations to effectively accomplish tasks in a timely manner.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Capability to adapt to the company's changing needs and priorities and be a self-motivated team player.
