Job description

Description Summary Under general supervision of the Director of Truck Driver Training, the TDT Instructor will supervise and train students in proper driving techniques and safety requirements in accordance with Federal and NC DMV regulations. The instructor will administer commercial driver's license (CDL) testing as a third-party examiner (if certified) for the State of North Carolina. The instructor will perform mainly instructional work; teaching classes, instructing students in school equipment, counseling and advising students, other duties as needed and required.

This position requires flexibility working days, nights and/or weekends on a regular basis. Performs related work and other duties as assigned. Knowledge & Responsibilities Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following.

Other duties may be assigned. Instruct students behind the wheel skills in a Commercial vehicle on the range and road. Teach CDL theory classes; counsels and advises students.

Maintain class records. Schedule maintenance for all equipment assigned to the class. Acts as Third-Party Examiner for CDL (if certified) Be a team player.

Maintain a positive attitude. Follow all policies and procedures of the TDT Program and College. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment Learn methods and techniques related to training of students Work with and train students from varying backgrounds and cultures Train students using the methods and techniques prescribed by the TDT Program Follow the chain of command as it pertains to department structure Other duties as assigned.

Minimum & Preferred Qualifications Qualifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Experience Minimum: Three (3) years as a CDL Class A driver and one of the following: one (1) year as CDL driver trainer or graduate from North Carolina Truck Driver Training School.

Experience Preferred: Five (5) years of driving and one of the following: two (2) years as a CDL driver trainer or graduate of North Carolina Truck Driver Training School. Possess a CDL Third party Examiner certification from North Carolina Additional Information Language Skills Ability to read and comprehend written material. Good communication skills with proper "diction" and "pronunciation" of English.

Mathematical Skills General Reasoning Ability Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Ability to remain calm and focused under extreme stress is required.

Must be able to lift 50lbs. and be able to move training equipment around on the training field.
