Job description

Harmony Hill School (HHS) is a private, non-profit organization that provides education, residential care and day treatment services to adolescent males. Our beautiful school campus is located in Glocester, RI, just a 20-30 minute commute from many towns in the RI, CT, MA area.

As a Weekend Cook, you will be part of the Food Service team that provides nutritious, well-balanced meals to students and staff. This is a 32 hour/week position with an initial work schedule of 11:30am-6:30pm on Sundays and Mondays and 7:00am-2:30pm on Fridays and Saturdays. Job responsibilities include:

  • Follow established menus, recipes, and any special dietary instructions to prepare, cook and serve daily meals and snacks to students and staff.
  • Adhere to department guidelines to ensure the cleanliness, safety and organization of kitchen, food storage, and cafeteria area.
  • Participate in various activities related to kitchen inventory, food deliveries, and quality control.
  • Engage professionally with youth and staff to provide a positive customer service experience.

  • Must be able to interact well with others in a supportive environment;
  • Solid interpersonal communication, conflict management and de-escalation skills;
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse population of youth, families and professionals. Possess a knowledge of and sensitivity to cultural, ethnic, racial and socioeconomic issues.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent;
  • SafeServ/Food Safety Handler certification (or willingness and ability to obtain);
  • Previous cooking experience required, experience in an institutional or commercial food service setting is preferred;
  • Physical requirement of this position include: frequent standing, sitting, walking, bending and regularly lifting of up to 20 lbs (up to 50 lbs occasionally).
  • Must successfully complete required driving, criminal and child abuse/neglect pre-employment screenings and maintain favorable results during employment.
