What is a weekend driver?

Weekend drivers are individuals employed to operate vehicles, such as cars, vans, or trucks, primarily on weekends. Their responsibilities often include transporting passengers, delivering goods, or providing ride-sharing services during peak weekend hours. This role is ideal for those seeking flexible, part-time work or supplemental income. Weekend drivers must typically hold a valid driver's license and have a clean driving record. Some positions may also require familiarity with navigation apps or customer service skills.

What does a weekend driver do?

A weekend driver works shifts on Saturdays and Sundays delivering packages, transporting cargo, or taking passengers to their destination. The specific responsibilities of these part-time jobs depend on the work and the type of vehicle that you drive. If you work as a weekend truck driver, you transport cargo or make deliveries locally. In a courier position, you pick up and deliver documents, packages, or medical equipment. Food delivery drivers transport food from restaurants to customers. Bus or shuttle drivers carry passengers on a route in a large bus, while rideshare or taxi drivers operate cars or trucks and work on the weekends to provide personalized driving service to passengers.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a weekend driver, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Weekend Driver, you need a valid driver's license, a clean driving record, and a solid understanding of traffic laws and navigation. Familiarity with GPS systems, route planning apps, and sometimes ride-sharing platforms or delivery software is often required. Excellent time management, customer service skills, and reliability help drivers stand out in this role. These skills ensure safe, efficient, and satisfactory service to clients during high-demand periods.

What are some common challenges weekend drivers face, and how can they overcome them?

Weekend Drivers often encounter heavy traffic, unpredictable schedules, and the need to adapt to last-minute route changes. Staying organized and maintaining clear communication with dispatchers or clients is key to managing these challenges. Additionally, being familiar with local traffic patterns and using navigation apps can help drivers optimize routes and reduce delays. Flexibility and a customer-focused attitude are essential for success in this role.

CDL-A Hazmat OTR Driver - $0.70 CPM - 3,000+ Miles - Newer Cascadias

Truck Driver Nation

Nashville, TN • On-site

Job description

CDL-A HAZMAT OTR DRIVER
HAZMAT ENDORSEMENT? PUT IT TO WORK.
Not every CDL-A driver can haul Hazmat freight.
If you've maintained the endorsement, kept your record in shape, and you're willing to run OTR, current opportunities may put that additional qualification to work with strong mileage availability and newer equipment.
Truck Driver Nation is accepting applications from qualified CDL-A Hazmat drivers for current OTR opportunities.
PAY & MILEAGE
• $0.70 CPM on qualifying positions
• Approximately 3,000-3,500 miles per week available on select openings
• Weekly earning potential depends on actual dispatched miles
• Additional compensation may apply depending on the specific position and freight
Actual miles, compensation, and earnings depend on freight availability, operating conditions, driver qualifications, and the specific position. Mileage and earnings are not guaranteed.
WHERE YOU'LL RUN
Current opportunities primarily operate through:
• Midwest
• South
• Southeast
Exact lanes and operating areas depend on freight and the available position.
EQUIPMENT
Spend enough time OTR and the truck matters.
Select current openings operate newer Freightliner Cascadias.
Specific model year, transmission, amenities, and assigned equipment will be confirmed with qualified applicants based on availability.
HOME TIME
Current schedules may involve approximately three weeks on the road followed by scheduled home time.
Home-time arrangements can vary by driver location and available position and will be discussed before moving forward.
WHAT THIS POSITION REQUIRES
• Valid Class A CDL
• Current Hazmat endorsement
• Current medical card
• Ability to qualify for applicable hazardous-material freight
• Acceptable driving record
• Ability to meet DOT and motor-carrier requirements
• OTR availability
• Dependable professional communication
Additional experience, MVR, PSP, drug-testing, accident, and qualification standards depend on the specific motor-carrier position.
THE ENDORSEMENT SHOULD MEAN SOMETHING
Getting and maintaining a Hazmat endorsement takes additional effort.
We're interested in drivers who want to use that qualification rather than carrying an endorsement that never improves the opportunities available to them.
We'll review your experience, endorsements, driving history, location, operating preferences, equipment expectations, and home-time requirements against currently available positions.
APPLY
Submit your application directly through this posting for consideration.
Qualified applicants will be reviewed for current CDL-A Hazmat opportunities based on experience, endorsements, driving history, location, and availability.
SMS COMMUNICATION DISCLOSURE
Applicants may choose to receive SMS/text messages from Truck Driver Nation regarding their application, application status, scheduling, and applicable driving opportunities. Message frequency may vary. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to opt out or HELP for assistance. SMS consent is optional and is not a condition of applying or being considered for a position.
