Dozer Operator

A Dozer operator has many tasks. The main responsibility is being able to grade the dirt to the proper design elevation. To achieve these tasks the dozer operator must be able to understand and work with GPS systems and know what grade stakes mean when they see them out in the field. This position reports to the Crew Leader.

Job Requirements

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
  • License/Certification: Valid Driver’s License.
  • Experience: Two or more year’s on-the-job experience operating a dozer.
  • Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities: Must be familiar with the operation and minor maintenance of various types of dozer equipment. Able to grade various parts of the job to the designed elevation in a timely manner. Some examples are: building pads, parking lots, overlots, streets, alleys and swales. Good verbal communication skills. Able to take and give orders and follow directions. Must be able to learn and retain information day to day.
  • Physical: Must be physically able to lift up to 100lbs and perform considerable stooping, kneeling and digging. Must have a full range of body movements including use of hands and legs. Must have the ability to work on scaffolding.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Minor maintenance and care of equipment.
  • Responsible for the set up of the dozer GPS system (if being used).
  • Grading various parts of the job to the designed elevation in a timely manner.
  • Communicate with all operators when running a cut or fill area.
  • Properly checks out, lubricates, and fuels any equipment that is asked to use.
  • Proper care and use of hand tools and job equipment.
  • Assist in the cleaning of tools, equipment and work areas.
  • Report any unsafe condition, accident or injury to crew leader.
  • Performs any other duties from time to time as may be assigned by the crew leader or supervisor.

Working Conditions

This position requires extensive physical activities working outdoors in all types of weather conditions at residential and commercial construction sites. At times, employees may have to work in constrained areas. Employees may be required to drive company vehicles to project sites located within a 120 mile radius of the company office. Job requires working with and around heavy duty site excavation and development equipment. Normal work hours are Monday through Thursday 7:30am to 6:00pm, Friday and Saturday 7:30 to 4:00 with a 30 minute lunch break each day, (unpaid). Start time may vary due to the needs of the business.
